I'm going to try and keep my story as short as possible here. About 6 weeks ago i had a coil pack fail on my B6 S4. I brought 1 from audi and went through each one trying to find which one was faulty. In the end, i managed to make another 1 fail while going through them. I then brought 7 more and fit them. I had to remove the MAF to get to the one bank and like a **** i turned the ign on with all coils in but maf disconnected
I put all the parts back together and dis connected the battery to try and reset the air bag light (was told this would work by a mate), well it doesn't!!
I now have vagcom thanks to Nigel ans performed a scan last night. Got this come up -

Component and/or Version: Airbag 8.4EP 3002
Software Coding: 0010602
Work Shop Code: WSC 63251 000 00000
2 Faults Found:

00474 - Control Module for Immobilizer
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
01794 - Control Module - Incorrect Chassis (VIN) Number
000 - - - Intermittent
Looking at the ross tech site it says the air bag control module needs re programming to change the vin number.
Why would removing the battery do this?

This was the short story too!!!

Cheers

I tried to do the adaption in the air bag section tonight (081 channel) and then add new value 02951 but it won't let me do it. Went intoprogramme options and ran a test, it comes up with can bus not ready or connected. Any idea's?

Dunc

Ok mate. Will have to do it tomorrow cause the laptop battery is almost flat.

Problem is the cluster, not the other modules. Cluster lost VIN due to internal software error. Only real solution would be to replace the cluster. Repairing the cluster is possible but besides that only a few people can do it, it's only a temporary fix and the problem will arise again.

Thanks Sebastian

Which cluster? The main dash with the rev counter?

Dunc

Indeed, as said before there are people out offering a temporary fix but obviously that ain't for free either. Depending on how long you wanna keep the car a new cluster might be the best choice, used isn't an option since most have the same problem as well (sooner or later).

£530 for the cluster from audi. I take it it is a dealer only part. Plus you have to give them the part number first!!
Is it an easy thing to replace?

Is there any way i cn get find the part number of the clucter with vag-com?
It's not the instrument labels part number is it???

Nice one sebastian. Was told by a local audi dealer that the factory would not accept the exchange part back if the part number was different? Yet another dealer told me that the part superseed's so expect the number to be different!
better see if i can get it cheaper than the £530

Just a quick one people.
I have found a cluster but it is for a usa s4. What would the difference's be?
Would it just be that the digital display show's km and not mile's or would there be other issue's?
could the km be changed in vag-com if this is the case?

cheers

Dunc

USA uses mph iirc from my travels around the US.

US Clusters usually lack the ability to have flexible service intervals and some other features, so they are unlikely to be an option. Not sure if it was really necessary to bring this topic back from the dead. ;)

Hello there.
I am in the same situation:
my car is audi a4 b6 2003
i replace my monocrom cluster RB4 immo3 with a colour cluster RB4 D22 immo3
i use my original vcds from rosstech , i adapt new cluster on the car , keys too ...
Only problem is airbag module :
00474 - Control Module for Immobilizer
004 - No Signal/Communication - MIL ON
Error apear only with this cluster, i put back old cluster and all its ok
i try to adapt in airbag module , channel 81 , with 02905 - doesnt work
When i open adapt / channel 81 / component protection i see in left corner : BUS NOT OK.
thats happen only on the airbag module , other module are ok - learning without problem.
this cluster is from 2002 , my car is 2003 - i think is no problem here ...
i read the dump on this cluster, maybe its necesary to modify something ...
anyone have a idea about this problem ?
Thanks to all in advance

Iulian
and sorry for my english
