Hi Forum,

Been years since I have posted but have a question that no one seems to have the answer too:

There seems to be a few TT flat bottomed steering wheels on flee bay at the moment, I assume that the boss on a S3 8L will be different to the new model Audi's - Is there anyway of fitting this wheel to an 8l??

somone has been done but as i remember involved alot of work
because the airbags are different for a start

Happy to do a fair amount of work providing it's all safe - any idea who did it?

Wasn't the issue something to do with the airbags being deployed in a different way? Therefore leading to a non-function wheel airbag?

Yes, the 8l platform runs single stage airbags, the 8p platforms etc run 2 stage airbags, like dave said, lol. It will work minty, ive spoken to a few people that have had it done, it involves a bit of work and aint cheap, a few specialist offer the service but by time youve bought the wheel and fitted, your knocking on nearly 1k, alot of dollar.

So its a case of aesthetics of cabin over aesthetics of face should you hit something........Face wins, I'll just have a go at the bottom of my wheel with a mallet )

How do they know it works though... Have they crashed it to test?

Minty is correct there is no definitive way to test except to crash it or smack the crash sensors to trigger, but they have been fitted to 8L's before.

No the 8P's had a staggered introduction of dual stage which started from later 04 onwards, so previous cars were single stage on the 8P chassis.

My theory is if you connect the correct stage, then it will trigger & work, but no way of knowing which would work without of course triggering.

I am actually upgrading my airbag controller to suit the dual stage system at some point, just needs a rewire & coding.

According to the people ive spoke to yes minty, but thats word of mouth, i've not seen any proof of it working so i cant comment.
