Just a quick poll really...I know the 8L has the pretty popular 1.8ts/quattro and 1.8t s3 quattro but what model of the new shape, 8P a3 do you drive? Im fairly interested in the new shape and currently drive an 8L 1.6 A3. Also how old are you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And there was me thinking that I would take the crown for being the youngest /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

30yo...no...31 (this day last week, I keep forgetting!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

2.0TDI Sport (Parabola's, Sunroof, Leather,Armrest)

richy - how the hell..? Insurance? Oh you're from the us of a though..all automatics/restricted etc etc, no MOTs. Do you pay insurance for what car you drive rather than based on your age/time with license?

David Robinson - As a man of many Audis, how do you rate the 2.0 TDI DSG compared to other A3s? Definately a possibility for me.

Looks like the 2.0 TDIs are the most popular then. Can't believe the insurance group rating is only 11/12!

Thanks people.

Oh and by the way...I'll be the youngest driver /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif....when the time comes...19 with 2.0 TDI DSG/Sline. And no Im not loaded...just saved and small loan!

Yeah, I seem to have gathered by reading here that driving/choosing a car in england seems to be a pain in the *** with all the tax brackets on emissions, and the insurance rates and such. Doesn't seem anywhere as crazy over here in Switzerland.

31 and 1.6FSi Sport /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I hope this means you'll upgrade to the A3 (8P) and not one of them ugly mkV Golfs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Hi Drysdale

I have owned 4 Golf GTIs, 2 Audi 80 Sports, an Audi 80 1.8E and an Audi 90 2.3E. I then had a Golf VR6 for 4 years followed by 4 Audi A3 1.8T Sports.

All have been petrol and manual gearbox. All have been good in their time and I have throughly enjoyed driving each one. I generally do around 20,000 miles a year and have taken each one to Europe for a holiday.

I think the A3 1.8T Sports just had the edge for me, but perhaps because they were the latest models. The 1.8T engine was super.

The thing that changed me to a diesel was the DSG gearbox. The only way I could get the SE spec and the DSG was to go for the 2.0TDI. I have not regretted the decision. It's a little noiser than the pertols but not so much that it spoils the experience. The general feel when driving is very similar to my 1.8Ts but with much better fuel consumption. My journey to Austria this year should cost me a lot less both because of the better mpg and diesel is so much cheaper than petrol in Europe.

If you are considering a 2.0TDI my advice would be to go for it and also to go for the DSG gearbox. You will not regret it. A manual 2.0TDI requires quite a lot of gear changing to keep it going well, but with the DSG it's just a flick of the stick or paddle.

Blimey !, so jealous /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Welcome to the forum.

32y & 2.0T DSG

There seems to be an awful lot of young people with flash motors here!!!

I'm 32 and run my own consultancy bringing over £100K per year and I can only just get my hands on the poor mans A3!

I pay £1250 insurance with 5 yrs NCD - how on earth do you kiddys manage it? (serves me right for living in manchester)

When I was 22 I had a Y reg MK1 Fiesta XR2 which I had to rebuild from a wreck. How times have changed!!

Blimey, you must be in a bad postcode /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I have 1 year NCD and pay less £1k for my 3.2Q, and I'm in the borough of Croydon/London!

what??? I paid £1100 with over 9years NCD for my 3.2 and I am in a great postcode!!!

I think South Manchester is one of the worst in the country.

2 yrs ago My neighbour had a Golf 4 motion, it was stolen by 3 masked knifemen who kicked his front door OFF and tried to kill him and his wife. No kidding. On that same night the police told us there had been 2 others within an hour of each other - an S3 and an S4!!

I keep my car parked away from the house to try and confuse the pikey theiving scum.

Moving next year hopefully!

Yeh but StefV6 you're only 29! almost a teenager!

It about time the youngsters paid there share! Bah Humbug!
