Hi just joined the site and looking for some advice. I have a 2006 2.0tdi s-line and absoluty love the car. Just recenty purchased it after selling my seat leon FR TFSI due to running costs and moving further away from work.
The problem is when i start the car in the morning i am getting a squeking noise coming from the engine which i have pin pointed to the plastic tensioner on the timing belt. The noise is quite loud on initial start up and extreamly annoying it does disapear when the car is heat up and driven for a few miles but this shouldn't be doing this.
Is there a bearing in there which may be nackered and causing this noise? should i get this looked at asap? and is this a big job to replace/repair.
The car only has 320000 miles on the clock btw.

Hello mate,

I also have a TDI, but don't get this - Though i had an A3 1.8T previously and that made the same noise EVERY TIME for 5 years...!

My neighbour works for Audi and his (A3) also makes the same noise :wacko:

Isn't it still under warranty?!
If not and there is something wrong i'd be kicking up one massive fuss to get them to contribute to the bill. :whip:

The car still drives great its just a really annoying noise and it does go away after the engine is hot but its driving me mad. The car is still under warrenty only had it 2 months so got 10 months left. I think i will have to give audi a call and get it booked in and get it checked. Only problem is the closest garage is 20 miles away by the time i get there and try and show them the problem it will be silent by then it only happens when the car is left for 10 to 12 hours.

My garage are top for customer care, they’ll give you a courtesy car for the day - Or they'll drive you to work and collect you as they did with my wife.
 
I'm sure you dont need me to tell you that if that tensioner fails it will most likely wreck your engine.

I would get the car booked in overnight so that they can hear the noise for themselves first thing in the morning. If replacement is necessary, then out of warranty you would be looking at circa £500 as it would be sensible to do belt and all ancillaries while the front was off.

I would recommend getting it checked asap though :readit:
 
check the belt tensioner if it's broken or has some damage, that I think may cause the squeaking noise of the engine.

Audi recommend 5 years or 60,000 miles for timing belts etc (they keep moving the goalposts) with your car being a 2006 model you are at the best part of getting to 5 years old, even though it is low mileage its probably more age related wear so i would be looking to get that done especially as when your warranty may be run over the 5 year period but Audi wont pay out if it fails.
