Good afternoon everyone,

Can someone please tell me for sure where the Lateral sensor is located on my 2001 A3 1.8ts 2wd?

Many Thanks

From vagcom:
01423 - Lateral Acceleration Sensor (G200)
I've replaced this sensor in the past on my old S3 (at least I thought it was this sensor) but it looks completely different.
Any help would be great?
Thanks,

Lateral acceleration sensor is located underneath the steering wheel column. You need your fuse cover open to reveal the screws which holds the plastic cover on. Once you got it off, its the small blackbox wrapped around in the metal mount. Heres a picture:

What fault are you getting? I just recently fixed mine  Saved paying £100 for a new sensor haha.

This is a fault i have on mine occasionally, ABS & T/C lights come on, cycle the ignition and it clears. Audi quoted me silly money to replace so i left it, be very intrested to hear how you fixed the sensor though.

i've got longitudional sensor fault, thats under steering column, lateral one is under/behind the glove box. i've just ordered both £235, been told to replace both otherwise they wont calibrate.

This could be an interesting topic for me. We picked our S3 up recently with the ESP light constantly on. Cleared all codes with vagcom but the light comes back on immediately, showing up as a YAW SENSOR FAULT.

Both our sensors are behind the steering column bolted to the same bracket. We have managed to narrow it down to the part number: 1J2 907 637 A which is the larger of the two sensors.

Now, I've read a little bit about these and some people change them without success and some people say they need calibrating, but is this the same for facelift and prefacelift?

Which would normally define a facelift, with the two sensors together or seperate (steering column / glovebox)?

hi i had this fault. the longitudinal is behind the glove box!!!!
followed a link i found on another forum and fixed it, and it worked! saved me 100 notes too well happy:)

thats a great link!...if you can read german! lol.

i think you can calibrate them on vagcom. but when i tried it didnt allow me. im ust trusting my contact (audi mechanic) who says you have to replace both, in order to calibrate.

it seems after a bit of research different cars have them in different places. the s3 might differ from a3 and tt and golf. i know for sure i've found the one under the steering column, yet to check the glove box one.

there is a setting in vag com to do this when the car is on a level, but my sensor was in tolerance and it was still flaging up the fault code, changed it and had no problems since, its recommended you recalibrate it first and after a sensor change but if its within tolerances there is no need.
