Bike rack confusion

I'm after a bike rack for my '98 A4 1.8T saloon and I'm a bit confused as to the options. Can I get a roof rack? I can't see any obvious holes in the roof, all I see is a little silver gutter. If so any recommendations would be appreciated :thumbsup: (needs to be fairly secure, the value of the bikes outstrips the value of the car :lmfao: )

Failing that is it possible to get tow bars that you can't see when not in use?

ive got one for my saloon, it fits on the boot and is a high lift type, its a thule one, i got mine of ebay almost brand new lol for £5, the chap bought it but it was wrong one but the shop wouldnt take it back so lucky me lol.

it wasnt quite right for mine but thule do different length fitting kits so i bought the right size and they only about £10.

i think thule are quite dear tho normally.

you can fit a roof rack but you need the proper fitting cross bars etc
 
I'd really prefer a roof rack if possible, as my experience with my first car was that anything that mounts to the paintwork eventually leaves marks:(

Can I install rails or must I get something that doesn't need them like these ?
