Dear All
Just purchased my first Audi: 1999 A4 Avant B5.

I've a few issues and niggles with the car and as a result I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction for a decent independent audi mechanic in or around the Edinburgh/Borders area.

Appreciate any possible info.

Thanks for your time

give Neil at CarCraft a call.
Tell him Ed sent you.
He has done some outstanding work on mine. has a full 4 wheel laser kit, runs his own Delta integrale, well versed in all things motorsport and VAG,
He is out at Bilston Glen Industrial Estate on the Penicuik road out of Edinburgh.

You in Edinburgh? What you got?

Ed
Thanks so much for your help. The gods are shining as I'm starting a new job on the Bilston Glen Industrial Estate a week Monday. Will definately call him.
I've just bought a 1999 A4 Avant B5 and love it.

07973 833 380

not the cheapest but he is one of the most trustworthy and knowledgable chaps I have had the pleasure of using.
he polybushed the whole car and fitted my coilovers.
He made up Goodridge Motorsport custom SS braided lines and fitted my B& brakes.
Numerous 4 wheel alignment trips and a full front end suspension rebuild when we couldn't get the front in spec for camber and tracking.

he will be doing my 4 wheel in a week or so when I finish the rear end. only reason he didn't do the rear end is I am tight for cash and had the subframe already

TBH, i used the guy once, and was less than impressed....

Booked the car in for a 4 wheel alignment and fitting two tyres.

Came back several hours later, and the wifey gets the printout and shows me that my front camber balance is away to **** (-1.5deg on on side and -0.5deg on the other) and that my rear toe angles are out. I asked if they were out why they didnt fix it, they at first tried to deny it could be adjusted at all, then when i pointed out all you had to do was slacken the four subframe bolts and tweak it over a bit they went "oh erm, well, we didnt have time to do that", and then tried to blame the rear axle on the beam being bent, rather than it just needing moved in its mounting holes.

So basically i paid £65+vat for them to set the front toe settings, which kwikfit or any other garage could have done for less than 30quid.

They also managed to score my freshly painted wheels on the balancing machine.

I'd be using CLCM in sighthill for any alignment duties in future if i still lived around there.

Hi, try these guys at avw autocentre in gilmerton edinburgh they are an independant audi vw seat and skoda garage. i used them to service my audi a4 and they also coded my spare key to my imobiliser. they have got the dealer diagnostic computer and done a complete scan of my vehicles ecu's and supplied me with a print to show me faults within the cars ecu's. price for the service was half the price quoted at edinburgh audi was very happy with service they picked up vehicle from my work and dropped it back off all washed what more could you ask for will certainly be using again.

Autohaus Edinburgh every time! They are in bilston glen around the corner from carcraft but they really are Audi specialists, that is a claim carcraft couldn't make. Autohaus Edinburgh - Home. Never heard of avw, must be new!

Autohaus is run by the guys who were AutoWerks on Gorgie road (that coincidentally Neil who owns Carcraft worked for)
Autowerks went bust when the boss did something dodgy, I forget the details.
Looked very professional and very slick, all the gear in the workshops, very tidy, lots of ramps and lots of people

I took both my 90Quattro and my B5 to Autowerks.
they misdiagnosed a Idle Stabilisation Valve problem on the 90, didn't fix the problem but the bill still arrived.
I had the obligatory bulkhead drain blockage and interior flodding through the pollen filter which set my alarm off permanently. took it to them, they couldn't find the Body ECU which was meant to be under the passenger footwell carpet, problem solved itself when the carpets dried out, but when I tried to drive away I found myself in the back seat as they hadn't bolted the front mounting point of the seat.

Not inspiring.

I hope Autohaus is better that they were.
Never had a problem with Carcraft, they are not cheap and I would never give them a job that was likely to take longer than planned as the bill would give you a heart attack....but then is the same anywhere.

It's not the same guys jcb. Your thinking of mike at autowerke. He went out of business after getting caught with stuff on his computer he shouldn't have had there, need I say more! The guys at autohaus are called Dave and Steve and worked at Audi before starting up on their own. They are good guys and know their stuff.

ah, worng ones then.
I remember the story of autowerke now. think given the circumstances I would have chosen a name a bit further away from "autowerke" to avoid any possible link!

what are their prices like? hourly rate? what kind of work have you had done there?....they dont happen to have a 4wd rolling road do they!? could do with on ein Edinburgh!

I ended up going to star performance which isnt much further.
will have a look at Dastec though.
cost me £50 for a RR session at Star which I thought was a bit pricey!
