Just bought (06) A3 2.0 TDI S Line Quattro with 40k miles and I am looking to service haldex system. Has anyone replaced the haldex filter and oil on their A3 themselves? Is the principle the same as on the 8L S3 quattro? Checked AVS website for prices and a different filter and oil are listed compared to 8L chassis quattros. Are any special tools required? Any help appreciated.

Mine is about ready for doing also the worrying thing is when i spoke to steve and craig at statller, they said on some they have changed in the past they have been noisy after (which i dont want) and also the oil they drain they have never seen dirty or slightly off coloured,so would like to know other peoples experiences

suppose if you had some moly slip added it should help with the noise?

NO NOT ADD ANYTHING TO THE OIL! sorry but that had to be said LOUD, the Haldex unit works by having predefined friction in the wet clutch pack, anything which modifies that friction could cause the unit to malfunction, use only the correct oil from VAG/TPS dealer.

I recently changed all the oil in my 8P A3's drive train - DSG, bevel box, Haldex unit and rear diff. They're all seperate and it's quite time consuming but not difficult, you may have to google to find the find pictures showing the drain, fill and/or level plugs. Didn't really seem to make any particularly noticeable difference though.

It was mine that was noisy , if you just do the haldex oil and filter you will be fine , I did the diff oil (separate part) aswell , which I found it had been running low on oil which I think is why the diff became noisy.

Hope this helps

Cost was approx £45 for 1 litre haldex oil and filter.

Recommended interval is 40000 miles. I got mine done at 30000 miles because I prefer to do these things early. Cost of Haldex Oil and Filter change at TTS Roadsport was £75.

That's dirt cheap. And an official stamp in the book and on their system. well worth it.

It's worth mentioning that Audi will only change the oil and not change the filter.

I can change the filter myself - shouldn't be too hard a job but as long as it is done and stamped I will be happy!

Going to be a an expensive month :( tv lisence, rugby fees, servicing etc.. lol
