If you've read my post in the 'new members' section then you will already know that my mrs and I are collecting our S line a4 avant on Wednesday (I can't wait :yahoo:)

I have read through the last 20 pages of B7 threads and have picked up on lots of useful tips, suggestions and mod ideas - enough to help me start a small list!

Ambient lighting - sounds easy and part is only £9 from Audi!?!
Arm Rest - need to keep an eye on ebay for one but keen to do it when funds allow!
Slight drop and A6 19'' wheels - depends if I can get this one past the mrs...

So, any tips or links to useful threads to help me with the above would be greatly appreciated and in addition, have I missed anything else that makes a big difference for little outlay?

Thanks for reading!

Woke up at 5am this morning, managed to lie there for a further hour and then had to get up! Far too excited about picking up the new car this lunch time! Not sure I'll get much work done this morning!!!

Cheers chaps, yeah, not long now! Will grab some pics once I get it home :)

Cracking - really nice place to be and the car is so much better than I first thought considering the miles!

Unfortunately the previous owner liked a fag or 20 and there is a lingering smell of stale smoke but it's nothing a good clean and some fabreze won't take care of!

So, to give you a bit of a run down: It's a '56 plate with half leather/alcatera, Bose, MFSW, DIS, black roof rails and was ordered with out badges on the back! It's been one owner from new and has spent most of it's like traveling from Salisbury to Devon and a company motor - hence 120k miles!!! The previous owner/lease company have provided 6 pages of history showing all tyres, services, warrenty fixes and anything else which may have needed doing. I am happy that this car has never been in need of anything mechanically. In addition to this, my cousin works for Audi so I have been able to verify all the history provided!

We paid £8.5k for it which I believe is pretty good money considering it's been fully valeted (inc. the engine bay) and the air con has been re-gassed along with the replacement of a faulty temp sensor - apparently this cost the trader £250!

Once I got it home I immediatelly gave it a good wash down and went for a back road blast. It feels really solid and honestly drives as though it has half the mileage!

Anyways, on with the pics!

yep, tdi (170) S Line... been for a nice drive with Mrs Dub and she's really pleased with it too - which is good as it's her daily :)

looks good , i have the 140 tdi sline cabriolet and i love it. good price you got it for like the colour too.

Cheers dude! I'm really pleased with it - it's got such a good shine and the colour is so deep!

A close mate of mine has a petrol cab and that was one of the things that helped convince me that an Avant would be the way forward!

Very tidy car mate, i remember when i first picked my car up, audi kept me waiting a sodding week while they prepped it ready for me.

I also said i would'nt mod anything on the car, but like you are planning i have done quite alot.

I would highly recommend you do the ambient lighting mod, you can buy a kit with instructions from ebay here mate:

Armrest- here are 57 to choose from on ebay!!

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=audi+a4+armrest

Slight drop- go for 30mm eibach springs from DPM, if your car is an S-line which is already 20mm lower than an SE this will give you an extra 10mm drop, looks great as i have just had it done myself, but you will need to get it done preferably by audi specialists as its a diffcult job, so speak to VAGTECH mate

I would also recommend that in a few weeks once you are used to the car to have it remapped (properly on a rolling road), this will easily put you at 200bhp with more torque and better economy.

Cheers for the info matey!

My wife called this morning to say the DPF light had come on and the car had gone into limp mode:banghead:

I drove down in the Bm'er and swapped cars so she could go to work and I could be left to deal with the probelm. By the time I reached her the light had gone away so I 'gingerly' spanked it up the A3 to Thursley before turning around and heading home...

To start with it felt like it had a slight mis-fire at about 2.5k but by the time I had reached Godalming this had cleared. I spent the rest of the journey in 4th or 5th with the revs around 2-2.5k so fingers crossed the DPF has re-generated and we should be OK!?!

I've aranged to pop in to Audi at lunchtime to run it on the diagnostics just to be certain that there isn't anything else up - will report back later!

Yeah those DPFs are a pain, love to get rid of the damn thing as they can apparently free up 10-15% extra power without increasing the emissions

Just got back from Audi and all seems to be fairly well. It has a slight intermittant underboost in the logs but my cousin explained that this may down to the ecu which there is a software update to help rectify and also helps solve the lumpy idle issues that these engines suffer from (mine included).

Gonna leave it another day and then go back to the trader to see if he'll consider sorting this under his warranty - if he won't I should be able to get mates rates at Audi anyway.

Just need to do something about the lingering stentch of fags - god knows how many a day the previous owner must have been on!!! I just can't understand why I didn't notice it on the test drive? It seems to be more noticable with the air con on so I'm going to look at aircon pipe sanatising solutions...

Any tips appreciated as usual!
