I've just been informed that the shaft in my 110 tdi's turbo is worn and letting oil into my intercooler , what a bummer! The question is where is the best place to get a turbo ? and do i go for second hand or get a recon unit . Any input would be appreciated

well depends how much your willing to spend. You pay for what you get more or less. you could risk buying of ebay for cheap but I would look into salvaged cars/scrapyards.

By the way who told you this? It could not be your turbo it could be your crankcase pressure is high and more oil and vapour is entering your intake from the crankcase breather. How many miles has your car done??

Agreed ... get a 2nd opinion.

It's more likely to be the seals than the shaft anyway, and a light coating of oil on the inlet tract is pretty normal in a turbo'd car but lots is NOT good.

My mate works at the local Vw/Audi Garage , He has taken out the intercooler and all pipes to the turbo and when you put your finger in the end of the turbo you can feel the shaft and it is moving up and down and side to side quite a bit which is letting oil into the cooler , he said it is very strange for a car like that with only 57000 miles on it . I suppose someone has to have the bad luck.
