My aftermarket CAT has lasted less than 3 months - what would be possible causes for such rapid deterioration - apart from faulty part - hoping to get it exchanged under warranty - but want to know what excuses garage will come out with.....Many Thanks

Excessive smoke through the cat is a possibility.... Something going through the engine.... Not many reasons to be honest I can think of.

Thanks - did you ever sort out your cold start issue - thought mine would get better in hot weather.

Usual cause for cat failure is the lambda not reading correctly, which is why most if not all after market cat manufactuors will recommend that the lambda is changed at the same time.

Just had my 2 cats replaced (from Eurocats.co.uk), and one has already failed in less than 2 weeks, garage is replacing free of charge but still makes you wonder!

A failed lambda causing over fuelling to the level that will do the cat serious damage would deffo throw a fault code.

Normally brings the EML light on if fuel trims go over +/-25% which they would be I would think to do any kind of damage....

2 weeks ouch....did you get any engine management lights or just rattling?

I took it back as the exhaust was knocking very slightly, the garage then informed me the cat was US. They said it must have been a defective part.

My dad had he's cat changed at kwik fit a and it only lasted about 2months
they stuck a 1.6 engine cat on instead of the 1.8 gti one they changed free of charge of course!
And it's lasted ever since
