hey guys had my car back couple days now after getting a new gearbox!

driving 100mph for about an hour or so, then after getting off at an exit i excelerate to re-join a motorway and at about 90mph the car wont go faster.. i put my foot down and it stays at the same speed, i changed down gears and the car slows down but wont gain speed. i then pulled over and turned it off and drove around smaller roads fr couple mins and the problem stopped, what could this be??

ALSO another problem which has only happened 2twice in the space of 5mins one day was i lost total power whilst driving in low revs, once when turning the car round and second when going uphill back home, the whole car died no power or dash lights. There is no warning lights up or anything.

regards

You would need to have a diagnostic done to determine the cause of your problems, if you dont want to take it to Audi, look for someone on here with VCDS, there is alot of members on here with it and they should be able to see what faults are being logged.

Same thing happened to my 2.0TDI last week. I was doing around 70mph then the car decided not to go any faster. As I got off the motorway, the car wouldn't rev over 2000rpm and would not go any faster than 30-40mph. The 'Coolant' logo flashed up for around 10 seconds then went off... Once I got home, I left the car on my drive for a couple hours, then started it up again and it was fine.

You may find it runs fine after switching the ignition off and back on, but you might find there is a problem there that your not taking care of.

It could be a turbo failure, the pipes failing, sensors somewhere failing, so it's best to get it checked by someone on here with VCDS.

Mine did the same, lost power while driving, when I plugged it in I had a pressure failure from the turbo not reaching boost pressure, so I replaced the turbo as i wanted to put a hybrid on anyway, and now it's fine.

Sometimes the little problems are a sign of other things and, myself prefer to check it out before the worst can happen...

right had it vagcom'd ...... came up with OVER BOOSTING.. thats the only code it threw up, he deleted it then drove it for 5mins and tested it again and it didnt come back up.

does this sound right?

I would drive it for a week or so an then check it again, it prob happened under a certain condition, i.e. high revs, high load on engine.

I think it's a diverter that's on the turbo which if it sticks could cause over boost, am sure someone will correct me but I think it's that, that has caused the fault to be logged.

had the same trouble with mine, as soon as i hit the motorway - total loss of power,i had my local garage Carry out a full diagnostics check which reported turbo fault, so i allowed the garage to fit a re-con turbo at £1200, received the car back from garage.fine until i hit the motorway again but same power loss as before.

Fault eventually found to be a turbo pressure sensor that controls the variable turbo blades, the garage also refitted my original turbo for free as they had fitted it at there recommendation, result.

hope this helps you

Sounds like a turbo on it's way out to me. Turn off the radio from time to time and listen, if you hear a wailing sound like a police siren then it is the turbo.

just started to notice a noise, but it sounds like a wheel bearing not the turbo... hmm im confused what to do.. it only shows over boosting... it done it again this afternoon didnt die but in second ger rev to 3thousand and then itt just kicks back alittle like a slight loss of power.

check for a air leak from the turbo to the thrust/map sensor. The intercooler connection is a common fault on 2.0tdi

cheers guys, the turbo feels fine.. doesent feel like the turbo, but again im no expert.. it just every so often at higher revs blips.. gonna take it in the mourning and ask them, hoping it is a sensor and not the turbo as i just paid 800quid for a new gearbox which i didnt expect!! :(
