Sounds to me like he's brought the car with the work already done. It's the only reason i can think of why 1; he wouldn't know what map the cars had etc. The fact that he seems to have just 'found paper work proving it's running 340hp' that he's not bothered to look at untill now beggers belief...
^agreed, i think that would be the difference between say a golf r an s3. I still don't think that a mk6 gti with dsg would be as quick as a healthy stage 1 s3 though.
My piont is that if you buy a well looked after totally standard s3 and then spend £300 on a stage 1 and new dv valve you turn...
I think the stage 1 s3's are getting a bit of a hard time here. Granted they arn't as quick as some modern hatches but only the top end ones - focus rs, magan sport 250 etc but they are faster than a fair few brand new 'hot hatches' - clio sport, focus st, mini cooper s works, civic typre r's...
Look forward to seeing pic's of them on the car. For me Red calipers was the right choice of colour Westy - looks great on dark s3. I'll be getting mine done in the next few months at the same time as having my wheels refurbish.
Out of interest where did you order the fluid from? I ordered some...

I did get a cheaper quote from this place Beat The Stealer - Lowest Price Car Parts in the UK - Fed up paying Dealer prices? but you don't seem to be able to order online and the website dosnt have a phone number? It...

My car is going in for a load of work next wednesday and i'm going to change all the discs and pads as well as the fluid.
I've already brought the fluid (Mutol rbf600) and some Black diamond fast track pads for the front. ideally i would of brought ds2500 but as im having a fair bit done is...
Was it the new Tesco high octane fuel? I found it better than the shell and bp equivalents. It's 99% octane vs shells 97% and i've found the performance to be as good and the economy to be better. On top of this Tesco clubcard gives better rewards than shell and if you shop do your food there...
I prefer driving mine quickly with the esp off too. Having said that i dont bother switching it off all the time because i don't see the point if i'm just nipping round the corner or stuck in traffic on the way to work and it's not exactly long winded if i do fancy it off.
What i would say...
