Again not an exact comparison but I went from a 272 to a RS4, both B9 avants.
Whilst I expected the RS to be better the difference is night and day, I would never take the 272 out for a blast for the sake of it, as the steering / suspension is mushy and vague in comparison and you really...
I don’t think these pictures are from an RS4. I’ve recently swapped from a B9 Sline 272 to a new facelift RS4, which unlike the earlier car, does not have the separate coolant temperature and fuel gauges. The new instruments incorporate these in the main display, which is also higher definition...
Indeed thanks, not sure why this needed to go from a good debate with interesting contributions, to a personal attack.

Apologies for being a grumpy old git, but the worrying point for me is the general erosion of honesty, integrity and respect for others. As time goes by the “I don’t give a s**t for anyone but myself” seems a sad state of affairs to me.

Another point worth considering... the v6 diesel is a heavy lump compared to the 4 pot petrol. On balance I prefer the immense lazy torque of my 272 but having driven the lighter engined version the effect on handling is noticable
I can't see its that much of a deal really, for example change on my tailgate would be .......

Sadly one of the problems of 8P S3 ownership is the age of the 8P platform. You can pick up an early A3(now 14 years old) for less than 2k, which means there is a healthy market for cheap (stolen!) S3 parts for those wishing to build themselves a newish looking replica.

It depends on your point of view if the b9 gearbox is better or worse than its predecessor, from Audis perspective it's a better design as they're carrying less weight and cost, indeed the best design is just good enough to meet the reliability requirements with standard engines.
