Checked my S3 on VAG COM and it reported a problem with the N249 valve - open circuit. I purchased the valve without checking the original one (couldn't find the time) so when I came to fit the new to my surprise discovered the electrical connection hidden behind a metal plate - not connected to...
MattS3 put the best list together on his thread, thats the one I followed and it worked a treat. The Phatnoise is from an American dealer and the transromer came from Maplins.
Credit must go to MattS3 for the info.
Just thought I would post under a fresh topic to help others...if it does.
Anyway, thanks to MattS3 for pointing me in the right direction on his post with regards to the Phatnoise off ebay, £130 bargain price but I did get stung for import duties. They wouldn't deliver until I paid which was...

You will just need to buy a power supply from Maplins if you get one though as the one it comes with has a 2 pin plug and is moulded onto the transformer.
I bought this one right here and set it to 9v

Sorry AL,
Thanks for the great info, I must admit that my car is running better than ever with the new DV, it now has a new lease of life above 3.5K but since the VAGCOM is showing this fault I think I might as well change it anyway. It reports an open circuit so I assume it isn't controlling...
Thanks for that, you did mention earlier that the valve sits on top of the engine on S3's, am i right in this and should I be able to find it. Another one, do you know the code for the valve to order it or is it just known as a N249.
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks
Matt
Thanks for the replies, just out of interest which is the better buy the 2.0 turbo or the 3.2. I know which is faster but which is the better all rounder and perhaps better to run.
A quick question to all 3.2 owners - what is the car like on running costs, also compared to perhaps the 2.0FSi engine. I assume the 3.2 will be more expensive but are we talking low 20's mpg or is it better than I think.
Many thanks
Matt
I have the same problem although the VAGCOM says the N249 vlave is open. I changed the DV and must say the car is much better but I thought if it still shows this problem then I might as well change that too. The problem is I need to find the thing and I have no idea what it looks like or where...
