Hi all,
A quick description of symptoms.
A4 57 2.0tdi 170 BRD engine with 58k miles.
Oil leak from back left corner of cam cover which drips on to cat and turbo (sticks at lights). Lots of Mayo inside the cam cover. Coolant goes through about 2ltrs in a month to 6 weeks. Occasional limp...
They are carrying out the repair kit option with the 100mm hex shaft. Garunteed for 2 years apparently. I'm hoping for nothing else to be honest. I knew about the problem so didnt drive it after the light came on. They told me it runs and delivers pressure but will slip when warm and under load...
Thanks for the replies folks.
yep, it was the balance shaft issue. Having it done now then ****ing the car off. Hands down the worst mistake of my life so far. Someone will probably end up with a properly sorted car which will run for ever now but my confidence is shot in the thing :(.
Cheers...
Cheers for the reply. It was the red low oil pressure warning. I didn't have any amber low level light although I've had them come on from time to time in the past but it seemed spurious as the level was checked ok.
The first turbo blew in good fashion and the second was a poor condition recon...
Hi and sorry I know it's getting boring.
had the dreaded light come on so stopped immediately. Car was running perfectly, no noise except the chime of the alert. Car ran smoothly to a stop. I stopped however in a really **** position on a blind hill on a straight country lane with no lighting...
Please can someone recommend a specialist, preferably in South Leicester to look at a 2.0 tdi 170 BRD engine? I've had no end of troubles with this car since new and I just need it sorting. On my second blown turbo now and a constant oil leak that even audi haven't fixed.
please help, at the...
UPDATE:
The company I bought the car from reconditioned the turbo FOC! Result! Seems much quieter now and economy is MUCH better!
It has developed a pretty big oil leak from what looks like the cam cover gasket though :/. Nearly there with the thing now and at least a gasket isn't going to...
Thought I'd drive to the dealer for repair to try and reduce my costs but didn't even get to the end of the road. Too much smoke. Pulled back on the drive with oil dripping from the tail pipes. Think I can be sure it's the turbo now. Low loader coming tomorrow. Deep deep joy.
I ran it for 4-5 mins and the white smoke continued at idle and under load. I haven't run it since as I was worried I might be causing more damage. The oil level is so f@&£ing hard to read, I'm concerned it's burnt loads off already, although the oil level light hasn't come on yet.
I hpi'd it...
The turbo has been making more of a groaning noise rather than whistle since I bought it. It also seems to change tone abruptly when the draw on it changes. This morning I started it and there was a little bluey white smoke but when under load there was plumes of white smoke. The turbo was...
Thanks mate. I was going to take it for a scan but the problem appears to have manifested itself as a blown turbo. Plumes of white smoke started initially just when cold but now all the time. Not much of a drop in performance but I'm guessing it's been on its way out for a while. Absolutely...
Hi all, I've got the same issue as the OP. A4 170 tdi. Brd engine. Turbo makes more of a groan than a whistle. I'm pretty crap with self maintenance so can anyone recommend someone around south Leicester that could scan it etc?
Cheers in advance
Pete
My worry is that I left it with max oil and now they've topped it up. I can only assume one of us is misreading the stick. I assume the max level is the tiny max line inbetween the two bubbles on the stick, so I'm guessing they've filled it up to the top of the upper bulge? Which is correct...
