I dont think its the anti-roll bar on the car (though i may be wrong), anti roll bar bush being gone is a much more gentle sound and the knock you get from an anti roll bar wouldn't be specific to changing gear.

the dis can be retrofitted with the cruise control as well as the armrest, my b6 quattro is the same. Also you are losing power through the drivetrain, probably about 50 hp.
