Took it in again and it turned out to but the fuel filter, cost me £76 including labour at my local audi dealer. Not bad but could find a cheaper price elsewhere!
Its sounds like you have a boost leak somewhere either coming from the small vacuum pipes too and from the n75 to turbo or pump.........but i would first look for a break in one of the intercooler pipes for a slit or a hose that has popped off.
Did this on my mk3 golf when i upped the boost...
This statement can not be right , if this is so then on my traverling around europe last year would have left my engine long dry.LOL

Is your tuning box adjustable , if so try and turn it down a little and see if it does / gives the shudder again.......if you can't adjust it i sugguest you take it off and go for a drive afterwards.!!!

I think you may have a split in an intercooler hose/pipe or one of the small vacuum pipes that go to the turbo actuator/n75 etc.......or it could be that when they changed the turbo and parts they forgot to thoroughly cleaned out the intercooler.
The smell out back is not burnt fuel its unburnt fuel......and i take it that the smoke that you are seing out back is a greyish/white colour.......DIPS A4 how long ago did you have to timing belt changed!!!
