    coolant sludge??

I had this and thought head gasket. Once I looked into it it was the oil cooler. Apparently it's much more common on these. It was only around £30 from euro car parts and an easy change, worst part is flushing the coolant system out. It happened after changing my oil pump, I think the...

    removing service light

Just to confirm though, do you need the full version of VAGCOM to do this or can it be done in the 'demo' version?

    Front Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly

Should've maybe said the car has done just over 140k

    Front Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly

I'll give that a try. There has been a sort of whining noise which seems to change depending on speed which has been there for a while. I jacked it up and there is a bit of play I'll get someone to try applying the brake but I think it is likely that it's the bearing. This is what I was...

    Front Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly

There is a bit of play on the nearside front wheel on my '97 1.8t which I think is the wheel bearing. I have read that this is fairly difficult to remove however I have seen a replacement which comes in a housing with 4 bolts to hold it on. I was wondering if this means that a bearing puller...

    Location of Airbag Connector

That's great thanks. If it makes any difference mine is the same year, model and Eng code as in your sig. So to summarise, make sure wheels are straight, take the airbag off, then wheel off. Then disconnect the connector going to the small black housing and remove it. I also presume they...

    Location of Airbag Connector

it is defo the older shape A6 which changed just after that. Just to clarify, when you remove the 'wheel is the contact ring still on the car or attached to the wheel? I presume it is still on the car, in the black housing and once the wheel is off it is just a small electrical connector to...

    Location of Airbag Connector

If it is located within the housing, is there not a locator tab n the back of in anyway, therefore it will only come off in the one position? Also I don't suppose you'd know if it is the same part on a '97 A6, as I know my local scrappy has one of them in just now.

    Location of Airbag Connector

Ok Thanks for that. I presume then that there is not much you can do to repair it? I assume that this is the plastic housing which sits immediately behind the steering wheel which has the small wire coming off the top of it?

    Location of Airbag Connector

Sorry I never got the chance to check it for a few days. I checked the codes again and got the following: 00588 - Airbag Igniter - driver's side (N95) 32 - 10 Resistance too high - Intermittent Unfortunately I can't search the forum just now but from the rosstech wiki I think it...

    Location of Airbag Connector

If this is the case is it possible to just clean it or is a replacement normally required?

    Location of Airbag Connector

If this is the case and it doesn't have side airbags then is there a easy solution or does it require a few parts? The code did relate to airbag ignitor - driver's side and was intermittent. I'll run vagcom again and post up the exact fault.

    Location of Airbag Connector

That's true, I only had a quick look, will hopefully have a better look tomorrow

    Location of Airbag Connector

The car is a '97 1.8T. I can't remember what the exact fault code but it was 'intermittent - driver's side air bag igniter' or similar. From searching I reckon it is the connector under the seat but I was just wanting to double check where it is and if it is easy to get to to try cleaning it...

    Location of Airbag Connector

Thanks I was planning on just trying to clean it first and see how it goes. I presume to do this I don't have to remove the seat. Can I access it from the front of the seat?
