Afternoon
I have a chap with an A6 looking to buy the old 18" wheels from our B6 A4, they are 18" x 8j, 5 x 112 and have an offset of ET35... they don't have tyres so that's not an issue (well, it is as it'll handle pretty woefully initially but he can buy the correct size tyres for it) I'm...
Just to dredge this one back up...
I've since discovered it's the front upper (rear) arm that has a worn balljoint but from what I gather, this can be replaced with the strut in situ however the double balljoint pinch bolt can be a complete ******* to remove?
I can get a replacement arm...
My other half's A4 had dark tints all round until I told her they were a) **** and b) highly illegal and made her take the front ones off. So, it currently has very dark smoke on the rear (for the kids... apparantly) however it makes it look like she sells drugs to underage teenage mums. I'm...
Well, having questioned the other half a little more vigorously it transpires that it didn't actually fail on the bulbs as the reverse light came back to life with a smack (technical!) and the brake light decided to start working of it's own accord. Having read that link, I suspect that it could...
And the MOT scores are in:
1) O/S/F upper balljoint has excessive movement
2) N/S/R tyre is incorrect size (it has the spare on it currently)
3) O/S/R brake caliper is partially seized/handbrake isn't very good on that side
4) Number plate bulb isn't working
5) One brake light isn't working -...
Appreciate the feedback
The car's a 2wd saloon, unsure on the spec as I don't have access to the V5 (elec windows all round, aircon, fully colour coded bumpers but no cruise control... if that helps!) It was registered Jan 2003 which would make it an 03 plate (?) however it's currently on a...
Unsure if such posts are permitted however following a discussion/arguement it's been decided the Audi has to go as it's proving too costly for what the O.H uses it for... ie the school run and so it's time to move the old battlebus on, but not being an Audi man at heart I could use a little...
Hmmm, I replaced the battery (as above) about a month or so back. The other half is now reporting the "Brake" warning icon occasionally appears on cold start but always goes off immediately and there are no starting concerns. Hopefully this isn't advance warning that the new battery is also...
Correct, the spare can be any size/construction but if it's in the boot and is flat, bald or whatever... it will also be failure point (I think) but if you remove said ropey spare wheel, there's no issue. You don't actually need a spare for the MOT, however if it's there it must be legal. I think.
Funnily enough, there was an 04 (I think) S4 popped up in a dealer down here recently, must admit I did go off and do the sums given how crap the 2.5TDi's urban economy is. I tried to justify it but arguing the point that diesel was now dearer than petrol. That fell upon deaf ears.
Slightly...
Ahhh right, understood.
And yes, it's a fail if the tyres on one given axle do not match: MOT Testers Manual - tyres
Although it's a little unclear as to whether you can have mismatched tyres IF the rolling radius is the same however the way I've been "educated" is that the axle must have...
Ahhh! This gets more complicated as it goes on... so not only has the car been upgraded to 18" wheels with 235/40/18's but somebody has then subsequently fitted 225/40/18's to the front (just to give me a headache no doubt) but on the basis of that info, the 'spare' 16" wheel that's currently on...
