It’s probably not a new back box, the flaps can apparently seize and just need a clean or could be the actuator motor has failed… don’t think the actuations are expensive.

Thanks for the replies. it was actually the half of the cete controller left in. Valves now work and the car is sustaining boost under wot.

there’s an empty caddy next to the white one I think that should have a green caddy in. I’ve also just realised that part of the cete valve controller has been left in … that’s causing my exhaust flap issue. hope you get bet better Covid can be rough!

it is an emotive and financial decision, but you’re right in that it’s “tarnished” the car. Financially I think I’m looking at £5k loss on mine and then needing an extra £5k to get something equivalent spec. It is a crappy situation!
