    Door Won't Open

Thanks evomaster3000. Do I understand correctly that the horizontal rod connecting the inside handle to the opening mechanism on the end of the door needs pushing a mm or so? I haven't actually looked inside the inner handle, can I get to the rod there?

    Door Won't Open

My '51 S6 4.2 has just given some grief in as much as the offside rear door will not unlock or open! The locking button moves up a little then goes back to bed when I unlock the car and refuses to go right up and stay up. Even grabbing the button and lifting it fully has no effect. Therefore...

    Brake pad warning symbol

A couple of things . . . . is the car auto trans? If so, when you select reverse, the wheel may rotate sufficiently to move the pads a mm in the caliper and perhaps a chaffed wear indicator wire is earthing out ??? The other point is a million to one, but worth a thought. Does the handbrake...

    A6 2.8 quattro + full tank = stalling?

Bruce, it sounds to me as if the engine is running too lean for a while after fill up. The only logic, apart from Yendall24's answer, that I can put to this is a possibility of water or crap in the fuel reservoir bowl ( a bowl in the tank to prevent starvation during a high G turn etc.) from...

    2.7t misfire

Sorry, misunderstood. I take it you have changed HT leads too. Very often a fault code will be registered for a particular cylinder "misfire" due to a high or infinite resistance HT lead. This is due to the voltage output of the coil pack going very high and the current going very low. This...

    55plate 2.0tdi a6 loosing power, help???

Could well be the MAF, a very common fault on loads of petrol and diesel vehicles. I think this model has a MAF anyway. The MAF made by Bosch, falls over at anything around the 60,000 - 80,000 mark very commonly. Having said all that, yes the EGR valve affects performance big time. To be safe...

    2.7t misfire

Have I read this correctly? If you swapped nos. 3 & 4 coil packs over and the scanner then said fault on 3 and 4, is this because you have put a faulty coil onto No. 3 and the scanner has read the earlier fault AND the new fault on No. 3? You then put a new coil on No. 4 when in fact the...

A6 Saloon 3.0 Tdi ECU Remap experience?

All Common Rail diesels are relatively easy to "chip". Some companies do it a lot better, and more reliably, than others. This company I can heartily recommend. Their product has totally transformed my Mercedes Vito van but unfortunately, they can do nothing for my 4.2 S6. They don't do any...

    A6 4.2 Accelerator Delay

Forgot to mention, the actuators live immediately behind where the cam pullies run, but in the centre of the V bank and are totally visible and accessable. Visually, they resemble a cruise control diaphragm. There's one for each bank of the V with large vacuum pipes fitted at the bottom of each...

    A6 4.2 Accelerator Delay

I recently upped from an A6 2.8V6 (1998) to a S6 4.2 with 82k genuine (2001). My S6 had the same symptoms as you guys. After removing the plastic trim across the inlet ports, I found the problem staring me in the face! The offside manifold throttle actuator had disintegrated! These actuators...

    Whats your water temp?

Very likely to be the thermostat. Certainly not dangerous if it is the stat. The main downside will be the extra fuel going in unneccessarily. The ECM will think the engine is still warming up and will apply "a bit of choke" . . . . enrichening. All this is exactly as Silverstealth said earlier...

    A6 Avant Running Problems

Yes, bank 2 is definitely the passenger side. Oxygen sensors are good for between 50k - 80k depending on whether the car is a city or open road vehicle respectively. The oxy sensor, as no doubt you know, is the last item in the engine management train and if it is; a) switching between...
