Why did you need to remove the ecu to flash it?

This just shows end numbers, doesn't make a point with even a panel filter change from paper to cotton low end I.e throttle response driving is a lot smoother and gear changing plus a extra few mpg. It's a definite noticable change!

I have also been told that they may have to take the ecu out and open it up which I really don't like the sound of!

A k04-064 should bolt straight on and the factory map will support that fine just depends on how far you want to go.
