    PS3......Slim or chunky????

The slim and the chunky are essentially the same, the mian changes are that the slim one uses a more energy efficient processor that reduces the amount of heat the thing produces so the case needs less room for cooling. The chunky one and the slim can both have HDD changed. I have a chunky with...

    I've sold it! A4 1.8T SE final thoughts/review

The tyres got eaten for a range of reasons, firstly the first set were destroyed in 2 onths by way out tracking on the back! Literally tore the inside rears away, leaving the outside edges at the back in fine condition. I bought very soft Goodyear GSD3s which aren't too long in life at the best...

    I've sold it! A4 1.8T SE final thoughts/review

Okay, I've sold my A4. I have had it 1 year and in that time I have had highs and lows with it. So, to sign off, my review of the car, the marque and the experience. First it was a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T SE in Merlot red met. I owned it for 11 months all in, in that time it needed 8 (2 pairs on both...

    Rear end whine - bearings?

Will get it booked in, the weird bit is the speed the noise started, yesterday, nothing, today a loud whine. Very odd!

    Rear end whine - bearings?

My A4 gained a new noise today, a definate whine from the back end. It starts at about 20mph, gets louder up to 65mph, then eases off as road roar increases. The tyres on the back are new Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s. They have only done 2000 miles, but all of this mileage is over the last 3 weeks...

Brake Warning light, how long left?

When I changed the discs and pads on my A4 for 312mm jobs, the front pads were down to about 1/4 of the thickness of the new pads. The warning light hadn't come on at that point. As a rule of thumb, wear below 1/2 the original pad thickness is time to replace them. A set of pads should do 20-30...

    Brake Disc Rust

Agreed, the surface rust is normal and will come off with a few brake applications. Look out for any pitting or deeper rust, this would be more of a problem. If it looks like brown dust on the surface your fine!

    How to remove glovebox

Got the thing of. Took 2 bolts underneath, 2 from the side and 3 up top! I've gone with 2 part araldite as attempt number one. The break is pretty clean, the damper looked fine and worked fine, yet since I've had the car the glove box has just flopped open, and has often been a pig to get to...

    How to remove glovebox

Nice one, I'll pull it out and have a look, I think the epoxy and pins route first, and if that doesn't work, big bit of angle iron will come next. Cheers Andy

    How to remove glovebox

My glovebox left hand side hinge broke today, it leaves the glovebox swinging on the other hinge. I need to remove it to have a look at fixing it. Anyone know the method of removing the glovebox assembly? Also, any ideas of how to fix it? Do I have to get a whole new glovebox, or just a new...

    Advice on changing clutch switch?

All done now, the clutch switch was £12.41 from Audi Peterborough, changed it in the car park there. Pressed the two latches to remove the wiring loom from the old switch, 45 degree twist anti-clockwise, wiggled it out, then pulled out the black plunger on the new one all the way. With no...

    Advice on changing clutch switch?

Hi, Re: Previous post, my cruise control died recently, I've been advised that the most likely cause is a stuffed clutch switch, I've got on ordered from Audi, due tomorrow. I talked to HazzyDayz about it, they advised that if in-correctly installed the switch would break, anyone know a method...

    Lost Sound on stereo

Just a guess, but could be overheating? I had a blaupunkt stereo in my old car, in the summer, when it had been on a while it turned off so the sound was like on mute, just audible, keep driving a few miles, and it'd just pop back. I talked to an audio engineer at a local car stereo place and...

    Cruise control died

I'll give it a look tomorrow. Silly question, but are the indicator, cruise and wiper stalks assembly a loose fit usually, I can move these about a good few mm in all directions. They don;t seem to be bolted or screwed on to the steering coumn on mine? Is that normal?

    MOT fail

If the car stays at the garage to do the re-test, and the work is completed within 10 days the re-test is free. If you take the car away and then return it the garage will re-test it, but usually at a cost. Commonly half of the price you paid in the first place. A leaking CV joint gaiter putting...
