originally my turbo had gone, causing internal damage to my engine. i have now fitted a new engine and turbo but umsure of what to do with my intercooler, as in do i clean it out , or get a new one? can i get away with just cleaning it out

i have a 2004 audi a3, 2.0tdi. originally turbo had gone, so turned it off strait away, towed it to a garage and and they had it running fow few seconds then turned it off. left it with them to diagnose if any other problems had occured. now the engine wont crank at all. so i bought a new engine...
