Hi all, The glovebox in my 2004 A3 8P 3 door drops down sharply when you operate the open handle. Is it possible to replace just the gas strut rather than the entire glovebox unit and if so does anyone know the part number? Cheers, Jimbo

That's very reassuring to hear. As the car gets older and gains more miles i'm less keen to spend money on it. That said, it's a brilliant car and I'd like to keep it until it becomes uneconomical to repair.

Very interesting. Changing the alternator pulley fixed the problem. Audi charged £240.00 for the investigation of where the noise was coming from. Doesn't this seem a bit much if the alternator isn't buried deep in the bowels of the engine compartment?

THanks for the reply. Audi phoned back a while ago to say they now think that it's a problem with the alternator. Is there a mechanism that engages the alternator only when the car is moving? I thought it was linked to the engine so that it was running when the engine is running? I suppose...
