Hi,

Looked at a renault sport 200 cup today.
I dont think i want to part with the S3 but have a friend who is looking at buying one!
I thought was a lovely car, what are peoples thoughts?
How would they go against an S3? NA 200bhp Clio vs Turbo standard/remapped S3?

Also offered an amazing number plate - CL10 UFO on a Alien Green coloured one!

Thoughts?

Cheers

Those clio's are fast!! There was a autocar test on them between that and a Focus RS and around town it kept up, although it looked as if the focus was just driving fast as the clio was THRASHING it! Clio vs a standard S3 wouldnt be far off. both 0-60's are in the 6 second mark, i think the clio is 6.9. How come your selling?

If your buying a quick clio, then it' not all about straight line speed. I have just come from a Clio Trophy, and my stage 1 mapped S3 is quicker but around country lanes or track, then the trophy is unstoppable! The 200 is just a newer version of the trophy and just as quick, just a little more refined

couple of lads at work have them and they look good with the reccaro seats, don`t know how they drive but they seem happy with them

dont do it they have frogs in the boot. cam belt every 40.00 miles aswell

i am gonna strangle myself after saying this but Renault have actually managed to make a decent car in the top end clio range.... good job really cos without the clio they would be completely screwed!!! seriously think the french wear blacked out sunglasses when designing cars!! theres sumat not right

anyway.... my opinion having not driven one is they are nice cars....would i own one? not a chance in hell, they arent built to last and even if they have improved over the years...you can bet money on the fact that all they have improved is how the plastics are glued together rather than adopting techniques used by their German neighbours

I think a 200 cup would thrash even a mapped S3 on a back road. Handling, braking etc is far superior.

Autocar did a test with Focus RS and the clio 200 is sat on its tail.

Far point but they are professional racing drivers that know how to get the best out of a car.

Also was in a controlled environment.

No PM this time Tim? Ha.

Clios. I'll say it once and again. Epic handling cars. 182's still hold the looks for me, but by all reports the 197/200's have really come on leaps and bounds in reliability and build quality. They are cheap for a reason but you'll struggle to find more bang for buck on a new car.

I grew out of my "cornering as quickly as possible in a tin can" phase hence buying the S3 which is considerably more boat like.

But i wanted quattro, boost and build quality - non of which come with the Renault Clio range.

depends how much you care about comfort really. i came from the audi tqs too the mk2 golf, as im young i really couldnt care about comforts and nice plastics as its so much fun too drive and is much faster than the fat a3 was. so thats all i care about really. i do miss my a3 on the motorway though, going 90mph and not hearing a thing. the golf revving at 5k rpm is annoying!

That's all good and well, but this is the reason they can sell cheap cars tha can show a thing or to to cars costing twice the price.

Yer i think i will probably stay with the S3. I was helping a mate choose a new car and he ended up ordering one, i was very tempted as well which is why i wanted your thoughts.
I love my S3, the turbo kick, luxuries both things i couldn't have in a french car but the thing you dont get in the S3 is the same level of handling or braking, the lovely brembos on the clio did stop well!

Ill check my mates out when his arrives in september, but for the money i honestly couldnt think of another car to equal the enjoyment!

If you love turbo kicks then you will hate the clio. However, those renaultsports are alot of fun to drive and get rave reviews. And the handling on them is superb, I had a R26 meg a while back and I still love it..

Quick Clio's are always awesome fun. Mate got his wife a 172 Cup and much to the disgust of the owners at a Subaru meet it was more than a match for the 4x4 turbo's round the twisty stuff. Build quality is always a bit ropey though (like most French cars) so don't expect it to last too long.
