This oil is currently selling in Asda for £32 for 4 L. I am thinking of an oil change for our 1.8 T, its currently running on Edge 5W-30. Should I change? any comments welcome.

Definitely:) Any reason for choosing 5w30 bud?

Only had the car about 5 weeks 2002 with 73 K. Service record shows last 4 years 10w 40 semi used. I noticed inside the filler cap a lot of black sludge build up so had oil changed with edge 5w 30 fully synth. Now im going to drop oil again...didnt want to use engine flush....so decided on 2 quick oil changes. Sludge now disappeared from inside oil filler after running Edge. Car has run great since buying, my wife drives this car mainly, well sort of mainly!!!

Cool, the 5w30 is longlife, the S3's tend to burn this grade more and 5w30 doesn't offer the best protection. You'll find that over time you'll end up topping up more often too. Most owners use 0w/40/5w40/10w40 and change it 8k ish.

Just letting you know for future reference:)

I think this chat is going to make me try change the oil and on my car and it is the first time wish me luck!!!

Thanks for the input, 0w 40, 5w 40 would be a good choice.

I've seen a few cars using 5w30 and the main issue with this grade is it tends to burn hence the drop in oil level. This is why i say it doesn't offer the best protection. I think for the enthusiast a 5w40 or 10w40 with 6k-8k oil changes is more ideal rather than the longlife 12k. Each to there own and i respect what your saying but i hate 5w30 personally:)

Bought the oil yesterday at Asda £32 for 5 litre, also checked Halfords again and its £16 per Litre...Wow Asda what a bargain.
