I was always told that using a good panel filter ( such as a cotton green item ) was the best option for my car,
But i was thinking is this the case? Can anything else be done?
Has anybody tried making something like a cold air intake pipe that moves a cone filter down behind the bumper such as those used on a mk4 golf? I have a front mount intercooler so the side mount coolers have been removed
Fitting a cone filter in place of the standard air box means the hot air from the engine is sucked up by the filter robbing the engine of power...
Is the cotton green panel filter the best option?
I finaly decided on this when a tuner said "the leon cupra R's in the racing series use a standard air box... if its good enough for a race car its good enough for a hybridised road car"
Is this the case or do rules restrict the air intake on those cars???

Its a fair question mate.... I have modded my airbox with a 4" piece of ducting which would have gone as far as where the old SMIC was if I could have got it past the pipework for hte FMIC but 4" was too large so its sat behind the headlight... it still works well though as off boost my AIT's (in around 28 degree ambient as it has been recently) are in the 40's but as soon as I put my foot down they drop to early 30's which is from the colder air being drawn through the air filter cooling down the heat soaked charge pipes...

I am considering fabricating a cold air intake from 3" alloy to have a filter in the bumper but use the airbox as a stealth cover to retain the OEM look... we had a Leon in recently for a hybrid K03 and that was using a Carbonio CAI which I liked the look of and seemed to work well.

When Bill has his dyno up and running I think I will have a play :)

i have a carbonio in mine. the sound makes me grin alone :D

That has a nice carbon fibre pipe and the a filter behind the bumper. It sounds like darth vader is hiding behind my bumper!

turbo spool sounds awesome too.

Queue the hydrolock posts now though.. :blahblah1:

Does Bill run a standard box on his Ibiza race car?

LOLZ!!! no ;P

4" inlet on the GT35...

that turbo must shift some air.

Does your inlet position really make much difference if your running a fmic though? I suppose every little does help.

I llove Bill's filter and inlet! I nearly wet my self when i first saw it! hehe i will be fitting a 4" ducting like tuffty but will be going the Jetex filter route but move it further away from engine with some hose on the MAF
