Hiya guys, bought my audi 1.8T a few weeks now and am absolutely loving it!

Been doing doing a few bits of research and really wanted to see if anyone could point me to some decent videos to highlight the difference between the resonated and non resonated Milltek exhausts; catback or full system, it doesnt matter. Either that, or if anyone has any other decent vids of other systems.

Cheers!
Tom

I am actually uploading a video to my web server as we speak of my S3 with Miltek system on the rollers.

Will link when completed.... Will be about 10 mins.

OK, waiting over....

This is a non-resonated, cat back system. Sorry the sound quality isn't fantastic, but at least you get the idea.

Is yours resonated or non resonated?

I really am enjoying the quiet of the Audi compared to my old car (although it did have a full setup including manifold and sports cat) but do feel it could do with a little more sound and oomph. Plus, I am hoping to look at getting more power out of the thing so an exhaust system will come in handy :)

I just beat you to it matey....

lol yeah, I felt pretty stupid for a moment until I realised the time stamps :)

I have no idea why I even created this thread! Just realised I dont have speakers here on my work PC so am gonna have to wait till I am home to enjoy :(

........all I can say about the video, it does look nice lol

The exhaust pop and burble on the over run?

To be honest, no pops, just a bit of a burble. It isn't really all that loud, the main thing you can hear is boost.

Cheers S3 Dave, will give both clips a good listening too when at home :)

TBH, the old car I had was NA and now moving onto turbo, I am not 100% sure what to expect in terms of engine sounds and mechanics etc. Do like the sound of boost though and after speaking with AMD Essex, hopefully I can get this increased and go for the standard "Stage 1" remap they do along with a Forge 007 and some kind of exhaust setup.

Ive just had a non-res cat back system fitted to my A3 and its quiet loud to be honest.its the discreet tailpipe. If you drive it on a light foot you cant really hear it tho.

Cheers Stevie, where abouts did you purchase you exhaust from? I dont think I have seen "discreet" tail pipes apart from the standard twin exit but even then, my current exhaust is hidden. I am assuming any exhaust with a tail pipe will just sit bleow it?

Did have a look at everyone else's vids with sound when I got home and I really do like them. TBH, I think I need to sit in a car or find another VAG with a similar set up and see how it sounds. I think coming from a VVC engined Rover with full CDA intake and exhaust setup, maybe I can handle more noise as the audi is MUCH more refined and sound proof even when barelling down the motorway with the radio off, its just purebliss at times. Just every now and then, I need some sound :D

I got it 2nd hand mate.but i do think its gets quiter once it has warmed up.

Cool, I have been looking at used exhausts as most of them have been coked up so will produce a nice sound compared to a new one. Nothing wrong with second hand providing the exhaust is mandrel bent and the tips still look good and its not rusty :)

At the moment, it looks like I am leaning towards the non resonated as it definitely sounds nice and beefy. I am sure even at its loudest, it still wont compare to my Rover on a quiet day lol

As a side note, I have noticed when looking at exhausts, down pipes and sport cats on ebay, sometimes they also include cars like the Leon, TT etc in the title and say that it fits them too. Is this actually the case and can I broaden my ebay/web searches by looking for exhausts advertised for other "golf based" cars?

Thanks!

why do they call it resonated or non resonated when they basically leave out a silencer?! makes something so simple sound needlessly stupid. silencers are the last thing on earth that needed a fancy word for them

To my understanding, a silencer is just a part of the exhaust that is made to reduce the sound levels and for most drivers, as they want exhaust sounds reduced, the word silencer is/was used to account for this noise reduction. For racing, sound is not always neccessary but as some like it and you are increasing levels from "silenced", I guess thats why they used the words resonated and non resonated. Although, I suppose for a non resonated sports exhaust, they could always just call it a silenced cat back?

Silencer is more of an american word as it is and usually it is synonymous was back box/muffler in reference to standard cars. Well, that's just my understanding :)

does the non resonated exhaust system still have a silencer in the center section,
as i have a silencer in my center section but am sure i asked for a non res when i got it?

no mate non-res does not have a centre box.it just has a rear box dude.

exactly. its stupid, how it ever caught on ill never know. ive had peope telling me about their cars before, res-nonres etc and they didnt even know.

its either a normal exhaust or one with the centre silencer missing, so its a bit louder

yes for audi based cars....:p

Wow how rapid is your car in that video S3Dave?! looks amazingly quick! Must be beating a fair few cars off the lights with that beast! lol
