My mate Matt recently set up his detailing company. Although a relatively new venture, he has 10 years experience as a sprayer in a bodyshop, so knows his way around a rotary polisher and how to make the best of paintwork. He's also built a number of show-winning cars, and has an attention to detail far beyond what I could ever manage!

So I had him come down today, and had the 2 guys work solidly away from 8.30am until 5pm. The results are fantastic. The paintwork has a genuine mirror finish, far better than I imagined it would come up. I honestly can't rate the job high enough.

The photos below are pretty crap as taken on my iPhone (flat battery on camera).

But anybody in Northants / Leics / Notts looking for a good valeter / detailer, then give Matt a go. He also offers paintless dent removal, so a good combo! This is him: http://www.d2detail.com/

Is it possible to keep it like that with sensible washing techniques or is there a wacky regime to keep up?
And what would be the washing technique (2 buckets?)
(detailing novice questions I know:sorry:)

cheers
Paul

yeah it is mate, its a lot harder with a black like trick is 2 buckets, and dog shampoo and keep the polish and wax regime up, granted youve a sb thats easier to keep :)

It's had several stages of treatment, and should apparently be good for 6-12 months. The advice I had was basically 2 buckets, a mit and good shampoo. I've got some mild Dodo Juice shampoo which shouldn't hopefully strip the wax too quickly.

I don't expect to be able to keep it quite so tidy (it looks like glass!) but it should be relatively easy to keep looking pretty good I hope.

your car looks nice... makes me think i want to get mine done now :)
how much would ir be to detail a black sportback?

£300 is the usual cost for what he did today (2 men, whole day). But will vary depending on what needs doing.

Looks like a new Car!!!! Take it all swirls have gone too! Looks great!

Cheers. I was shocked how well it came up! No swirls whatsoever now. There's a few light scratches in the paint, but it's 6 years old so to be expected. When I had it machine polished previously, it was better but quite swirly, but it's honestly like glass now...

Pete...............Stunning.

Now that is how black SHOULD look!

Very, very tidy Pete, looks amazing! Your mate is very skilled

I have the same finish as you (brilliant black), so I know what it is like to try and keep looking swirl/scratch free ...... a ****** nightmare:laugh:

At some point when I have a spare day (which isn't often!) I'll get around to doing mine with the DA polisher.

Maybe you should put some better pics up, when you get a chance, as you don't see many good looking double grilled A3's like yours being shown off:photo:

BTW are the exhaust tips the ones for the Votex kit? If so, how do you attach them? I have the same rear diffuser, Cheers:thumbsup:

*edit* just read your mod list! Remus Exhaust, so that answers my question! Cheers anywho!

Cheers. I've always been ****** off with black due to the swirls, but when it's like this I'm it's biggest fan.

It was interesting that Matt said black was his favourite colour to detail, as it gives the most satisfaction when he's done.

Looks stunning man, best your car has looked, needs to come down big time though dude.

Cheers dude. Hoping to have it an Inters, so need to crack on and get the other few bits and pieces sorted soon. Already got a plan to drop the rear another 10mm, but it's catching a bit already, so the arches will need a bit of chopping up if it's to remain driveable!

Cheers, I feel like an ambassador for the twin grill. Every other f*cker is getting rid, but I'm cool with it!

Will try and get some better pics tomorrow as got a better camera at work anyway.

Exhaust is Remus - tailpipes sit perfect with the Votex rear, and as they're staggered, they follow the lines, so looks like a factory combo IMHO.

I might be getting in contact with your friend next month... see if i can get forum discount :p

I found a long scratch on my car today... some jealous BAS***D decided that my car needs a new paint job and helped himself :(
From the passenger door handle to the front wing

If I had just made a car look that good, I would sex wee I think. He certainly knows his stuff by the looks of it.

My car SOOO needs a proper detail.............

Tosser, there's always some jealous people that hate to see anybody with nice things. Makes me sick.

Dartford is a long old way from Leicestershire, so maybe somebody a bit closer to home that would be recommended on here?

But if anybody is in Matt's area, he's a good guy so always open to do a deal I'm sure.

Looking good Pete!!

The tips come with a cutting guide to mark up the correct place where to hacksaw the old ones off......not for the faint hearted!..........You then attach them to the stubs and tighten the allen key grub screws.

Thanks for that Ju! :icon_thumright:
That will mean the Mrs and the kids will have to go out for the day for that mod then :scared2:

I know what you mean Pete, about being the ambassador for the twin grill, as I was going down the single grill/S3 conversion myself, when i saw the Votex Kit, I prefured that instead! Looks more aggressive to me IMO.

Plus if I did decide on an S3 in the future, it wouldn't feel like buying a new car!

that looks great and those wheels look foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooken hUGe :)

looking at those new pics makes me want to get mine done so much more!
its beautiful mate! you must be so proud of her

Let us in to a trade secret then Pete ! what ddi they use on your black plastic under the bonnet ?? looks excellent ..

Looks cracking Pete, black is a pain sometimes but when it's properly cleaned up it's worth the pain.

Will look even better once you get the new wheels on! ;)

It just occurred to me how everyone else likes the Wheels and mirror finish paint....and i like the plastic fuse box.... god i need help !!

Looks stunning Pete

What a lovely car indeed black is the best colour when clean, question why do the wheels stick out further than the arch or is it an optical illusion :icon_thumright:

Not sure, but will ask him next time I speak to him. The engine bay was pretty clean before, but now super clean.

It doesn't make you sound like a trendy young dude, no... you could be our new Dave R ;)

Not an optical illusion. Just what happens when you fit 9" wide rims. And I love it :)

Looking at your photos I didn't like the way the rims stick out further than the tyres. Made it look like you had hub caps stuck on there.

But to be fair, I like the look now. Quite a lot actually.

nice im loving those Bentley wheels, especially in gunmetal

Thankyou for all the nice comments! And thankyou to Pete for letting me work my magic on it! It is a lovely looking car.
