Unless it had been involved in an accident then subframe would be ok I would think, just a thought that was all. I would say tracking is more than likely the fault. Spoke to Awesome a few moments ago and they confirm that tracking would be an issue if you've hit any sort of pothole!

Tracking is out based on the steering wheel being out (since I bought it). Been meaning to have that sorted, but it is now a more vague feeling when going over bumps.

Yeah I'm going to go to JBS or Awesome GTI to have it checked out, tracking will be done once the steering issue is fixed. No point paying for it to be done twice at £45 a go!

Tracking wont make it knock.. im sorry to say.
Tyre wear, pulling to one side, skitty etc maybe.

Subframe bushes are known to wear, apparently a good mod is to upgrade to TT solid bushes.

Ok so here's an interesting update. The car pulls quite sizeably to one side from standing start on full power. . . Pull out of a sideroad earlier and it really veered to one side. Suspension??

Which would point at tracking!
