The S3 is 4 years old now? The Sirocco and R are brand new. I used to think VW were crazy with their pricing strategy (and sometimes still do), it's been done intentionally to target the more middle class manager. S3s started out at about 25-26(or near I think?) and have a different reputation associated with them.
Golf R / Scirocco R / S3: Am I missing something???

Saw the Scirroco R and Golf R in Rising blue whilst I was in Berlin a couple of weeks ago and thought they both looked ace. Have never driven either but what I hear is that even though the Rocco R is 2wd it has a more than capable chassis. I would happily have the Rocco R as my next car but the only thing that puts me off is the buckets are not an option!
Personally I feel the only benefit of 4wd is on the 1/4 mile or when it rains. Does the Rocco R have a diff?

Sorry but if your Audi was 2wd you would very quickly see the point of 4wd. I have had a A4 fwd loan car for the last 2 weeks and its prone to just spin the wheels when trying to pull away. A gap in the traffic when you want to pull out needs careful consideration because chances are you will need a lot more room than usual because you just cant put your foot down. And thats just a 1.8T estate.
That's strange. I have owned a number of 2wd drive cars in the past and never had amy issues when pulling out of traffic but like I said that's just my personal opinion.
Paddy I think it's when you get used to a 4x4 car it makes you forget how to set off nicely!

It surprises me you found that. I know a FWD diesel can be a bit wheel spinny with all the low down torque, but I did 1,000 miles over a weekend in a remapped Scirocco TSI and didn't once struggle for traction.
I'd have the S3 if I was looking at buying those. It looks the nicest, has the best interior and has 4WD. The Scirocco is not a looker, I cant see why people go on about them so much? Its pretty boring, they strayed way too far from the concept with it. The R version looks ok though!
I wonder if the hard s-line suspension and the fact that its tail heavy being an estate didn't help. I am sure it wasn't typical of a FWD.

You can bet the next s3 will revert back to typical vag pricing hierarchy I'm sure.
Warren have you thought about contacting you lender to see if you can extend the agreement by 6 months whilst you wait on the rs3? Would help your situation I think?

Have to admit S3 looks dated pre and post facelift so it's clearly a premium price for the newer product.
Roco looks lovely but shame about the poor visibility out the back windows. As for the price way steep for the R and Golf R but who knows what a revamped S3 would cost.
