Weird noise coming from alternator????

Hi all,

I chainey light grinding noise is coming from my alternator i think. Is it common for the alternator pulley bearings to go on the alternator as thts what i think it is and also what are the consequences if i drive it until i get the part???

ps is a used alternator okay to get or should i get a brand new ??? ( if it is the alternator )

I think you should get brand new. Your alternator are not efficient. They just annoying your audi.

seized alt...................dont risk it imo
im an engineer ...once bearings have gone its a waiting game .....

You can get reconditioned alternators for a fraction of the price of a new one,

Can you get a squirt of wd40 in it ???
 
Mine did exactly this after Audi overtightened the belt, it had only done 60k miles. Yes get a recon, about £130. Mines still going after 7 years and 100k miles
