On Wednesday, I made the lengthy trip to R-tech...after battling through rush hour traffic and 3 hours later I arrived and was greeted by Nick at R-tech.
Nick didnt mess about and got my car straight on the rollers for a session of logging...after about 10-15 mins of various checks on the rollers and a lengthy physical check of all the cars components she was good to go and Nick started writing a map.
My car is an AGU A3 with a KO3s turbo with all the extras needed for stage 2 mapping (FMIC, exhaust, etc..)
It took a couple of hours for Nick to write the map but the car was soon back together and back on the rollers for some power runs...and before i knew it the car was ready for a test run. Nick took the car up the road a few times to make sure everything was running ok, however, the only thing he noticed was the boost was surging every now and again thus slightly over-boosting.
The ecu was whipped out again and Nick tryed to over come the problem through the mapping. He then went out and tested it again, but the problem was still there, but slightly better due to the new map. He suggested I ran a manual boost controller inline with the n75 to flatten out the top end in the boost and stop the surges. aparently this can be quite common in the KO3s turbos.
All i can say now is WOW! what a difference! The power comes in a lot earlier now and stays there all the way through the revs. Its awesome! :D
I cant recommend R-Tech enough! Quality service and an extra quality product! If anyone is planning on getting their car mapped in the near future these guys are for you!
Heres a copy of the dyno printout:

As you can see the first reading is of the k03s on the agu but with my existing custom code stage 1 remap and the 2nd being the new custom map from R-Tech... you can see clearly the difference and how the power stays all the way through the revs. The wavey parts are the boost surges i was getting, so hopefully the MBC will sort this and make it a little smoother.

All in all...I'm a very happy chappy :D

Wicked, i have tried emailing, and ringing several times, tbh i am starting to give up hope of ever getting mine sorted..

I am glad Nick was on yours, he is the man

I know he is flat out at the minute due to lack of staff.... took me ages to finally get mine booked in... definately well worth the wait though!

nice little write up there matey!
I still can't believe it's making 200bhp at the wheels at just over 3000rpm! the way it drives it awesome too, the power is savage, but it's such a nice map the way it just keeps on pulling.

I was really impressed when we went for a spin :)

Cant wait to get my mods for stage 2 done!

Maybe i should be more persistant than emailing daily or ringing etc,lol

When is yours booked in for tweakage Prawn

Nah i need someone with experience in hybrid turbos and bespoke tuning, this is where Rtech come in. As an off the shelf solution Revo are fine

Put your money where you mouth is then Jase :p

I'll let you know next time I'm heading up to get my stage 2, then we can put this 2 year argument to bed once and for all :)

Good to meet you up there fella :)

Mark: I was going to do all the mods and go straight to st2, but Nick's pricing system is so great, it's costing me no extra to get st1 first, then update to st2 at a later date, so I've got his st1 now (which is awesome) then going back for st2 towards the end of summer when I've done the required....

I really don't wish to sound like am bottling it but how ? quarter mile (straight line fairies) or track (he who dares wins or has the least to lose if crashes the car )

good to put a face to a name :icon_thumright:

PS arches

I know what you mean.......

at the ring I was passing just about everything, 911's, M3's, the lot, but ultimately, it's fair to say I had a lot less to lose than they did, so perhaps that's got a lot to do with it..... apparently I'm also fairly brave :p

mass ASN ring trip perhaps?

As for straight line performance, I think 1/4 mile times are a good indicator, or a pikey style dual carriage way side by side 20-70 (obviously) sprint.....

ooooh nice write up...... personally i think the 1/4 mile will be a loss for the A3 but would expect it to take it on the 20-70 ( ;) )

based on what Nicks said previously.....bear in mind the chap at pod 2 years ago who ended up dumping his oil all over the track....before that he wasnt anywhere near the low 14's

a3 ko3s 1/2 is not even close to an s3 at 20-70, but above that they are quicker due to less dead weight.

a3 ko3s 1/2 is not even close to an s3 at 20-70,

No you're right, it wasn't close at all, last time I raced a remapped S3 in my old ko3S AGU, I killed it. They're quicker than you think.....

if you look at power to weight, a 230bhp A3 weighing 1200kg will have around 190bhp/ton

a 260bhp S3 (as if any st1 S3's ACTUALLY make 260-haha) weighing 1450kg has only 179bhp/ton, you'd need at least 270bhp, and an optimistic 1400kgs to match the power to weight of the ko3S A3

Tim: you're definately right about the initial take off though, which may transfer to poor 60ft times on the strip

how come the first run made the highest at the wheels yet the lowest at the crank? did the box magically change it's losses over the space of 5 minutes :p

Still, I think we all know that for some reason your car seems to be freakishly good Jase, VERY few I've seen ever make over 250bhp on a stage 1 map.

Given your max 281bhp figure and I seem to recall you once saying your logbook weight was 1450kg? that'd give you 193/ton.... 2bhp/ton more than a ko3S A3 :p

Tim if you pull your finger out and get your ladies A3 sorted we could put this argument to bed...lol

Gear ratios will play a part too, from my experience the S3's gearbox is a lot better than the A3's, although you have to use it more...

yea Tim, get it sorted :p

We all knwo the S3 is a better car at the end of the day, I just like sticking up the the A3, it doesn't get half the credit it deserves :)

I loved my A3 and sometimes kind of wished I'd bought a newer A3 with the K03s to play with, my A3 was quick for what it was only running 194bhp, let alone 230ish, sadly though it would never warrant me selling the S3 because the money I'd be able to bank once finished wouldn't be justified...

I know what you mean, that was the position I was put in, I could either buy a MINT facelift A3, and modify it to the same stage as my old one, or for the same money I could buy a high mileage pre facelift S3 in average condition, and I wouldn't have been able to afford to modify it at all....
For that reason, the A3 was the clear winner.

I did see your new A3 in the pics section, a friend had one the same colour, nice looking motor.

Thanks for the comments guys
Quite a heated debate over the whole s3/a3 and whos quicker! haha
There should definately be an ASN trip to the ring! Could maybe settle the debate once and for all ;)

hehe, I always get into these debates :p they're fun.

Finesse - now you're just being helpful :search:haha

Liam: I've already been to the ring with an S3, and thrashed it, but the loser blamed it on a 'bad remap'

will do chaps...... just got exhaust to sort, plugs to get put in, catch can and our main holiday out the way - oh and this engine light if any of these new parts dont fix it.....then it's off to R-tech we go ;)

taking longer than i expected :(

that said i could have done quite a bit this morning, although repainting my red calipers, repainting the grill surround and laquering...and cleaning the front wheels fully - on the S3....became more important ;)

it COULD be the miltek sports cat that's brought the engine Light on tim......

I'd hope not, but it's not impossible, it's said that sports cats arn't as effective as standard ones due to being higher flow, I have heard of it happening before on some cars.

If it is that, Rtech can map it out like they have on mine :)

cheers for that Nick, i did post up the last time the codes came up....will let you when i can be ***** to hook it up, that might tell us....

seem to remember intermittent MAF, injector bank 3 code and another for possible exhaust issue which could be the route of it

i think a tuned a3 is even faster than a bt s3

You seem to be a bit naive tbh.

Sounds nice and fast liam!

Have you got your handling sorted on it? Have you got any more plans for it?

Thanks mate, it sure is :D
In the process of sorting the handling out, fitted new wishbones/bushes and bottom ball joints yesterday, still need to fit my top mounts bushes/bearings and then sort th ARB bushes and with a bit of luck the handling should be spot on.
As for future plans...get a custom rear exhaust box made up as mine is ****** and started spitting red hot bits of baffle out when it was on the rollers! also need some spacers... then nothing until i get bored :D

I just read behind the sarcasm, can you even be naive to sarcasm ? Was on about all your references to the s3 vs a3 debate.

Sounds good mate going to be mental when its handling good :arco:
