Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

Got my car back today and it all looks OK although it was raining so couldnt really check it all that well as it was soaking wet. Nice to have some horse power back though :)

I work for Audi, and just a hint, the main reason for refusal is that you need to have Full Audi Service History, this is the main thing that Audi UK go on.

Also ive got a 2000 A3 and that had rust on the driverside roof trim, and i failed in getting it under 'warranty' so had it done myself, doesnt cost nearly as much as the hassle you normally have to go through to get it sorted through Audi

They didnt check the history the both times i claimed and had the work done?

Demand one mate, I got one both times. Brand new A4 TDi Sportline the first time and a racing Seat Ibiza 1.2 last time (brand new though :) )

Its not your problem that the roofs rusty, its theirs so they should supply you with a vehicle.

When i bought my S3 i noticed very very minor bubbling on both roof rails, literally just the start of it and hardly noticeable by eye. Also there is bubbling and rust broken through the paintwork on the rear drivers side arch lip. I used these defects to haggle £1,000 off the asking price so not bad but i called my local Audi dealership in Southampton on Tuesday and booked it in for an inspection at their approved bodyshop today.

Just got back and the guy took a look, he thinks there has been previous work done to the rear quarter at some point but he said he will submit it and see what they say. He took pictures of everything including the mileage, chassis plate and number plate. He said Audi take about 48 hours to make a decision and i should know by the end of next week.

I'm really hoping they approve it as obviously it saves me forking out and the bodyshop looks top knotch. They were brimmed with motors all top end Audi's/Porsche's and Bentley's so i'm confident in the place it would be going to should it get approved.

I'm not getting my hopes up though and i shall expect the worse to avoid disappointment.

Fingers crossed though : )

am i correct in thinking if you find rust on your car Audi should sort it out for free?

Is this a life time warrenty? whats the criteria?

Popped Mine into Plymouth Audi today After spotting A few Bubbles just starting to form on both sides of the rails last week. I was very happy with the way i was treated seeing as my car is ageing now. The Warrantly manager sounded very promising and he also said that it was the second A3 with this problem that he had seen this week! Now got the long wait to see what Audi U.K will do for me. Fingers Crossed.

Thanks Again to all that has brought the issue to attention. I wouldn't have spotted them problem with out reading on here!

Okay so i contacted the bodyshop last week to see if a decision had been made on my roof rails and drivers side wheel arch and they told me Audi UK had refused it under the basis it has not got FULL Audi service history.

But, they also said they have re-submitted it for me under a gesture of goodwill so i am waiting a final decision now.

has not got FULL Audi service history.

I don't see how a full service history (Audi or not) could make any difference since they don't 'service' bodywork, equally I thought that there was a law passed a few years ago that stopped manufacturers demanding a dealer only history so they cannot require it to be Audi. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only who has had the work done free of charge without Audi service history - they didn't even ask to see the service history in fact.

The Guy up at Plymouth Audi today didnt even ask to see any documents what soever for my car. He genuninely seemed more interested in getting my car sorted and rust free. He has told me the next stage now will be if Audi come back with either a 'yes or no' answer to the work getting done? I dont have FSH

had my roof rails done about 2 years ago on my 1999 A3 18T. I've owned the car since Dec 2000. went to wolverhampton, no questions asked, bodywork repaired within two weeks and free hire car. Only trouble is its just starting to bubble up again! Will take it back and see what they say.

Plymouth Audi sorted mine and whilst it has FSH it's a mix of main dealer, independent specialists so speculation that if you dont have FASH they will refuse corrossion claims seems to not be accurate. Good luck with the repairs, mine looks spanking now its done, just hope you get a better loan car than I did ( Corsa).

Was there any problems with yours getting done up at Plymouth? so far i have been treated fantasticly both over the phone and in person. Mine has only just started to bubble. its almost impossible to see unless you catch it in the right light?

Went in this afternoon, guy couldn't be more helpful funny thing is when i mentioned the corrosion first thing he said was roof rails!!!
Although he said the wing would be unlikely to be repaired as the 'age' of the car went against it, i replied the age has nothing to do with it as its a 12 corrosion warranty not a nine year eight month warranty.

Waiting in anticipation

Well, I first noticed mine about a week after I bought the car back in October 08 whilst giving it a wash. Took it too Parklands Audi in Gloucester and too my surprise they approved the claim and the car was booked in shortly after... got an 08 plate A4 Avant for the week and all was good... until this evening when I noticed it had returned!!!

Thought it was just a bit of bird ***** or splatted bug as I was wiping off the days carnage at the time but turns out its visible rust... checked the other side and looks like its bubbling again... talk about gutted...

Not sure how this is likely to play out but it should be warranted so I am going to go back next week and give it a go.... not sure what I am more worried about, getting refused the claim or leaving my car with a bunch of idiots that might decide to take it for a spin when they realise whats under the bonnet... I shall be bypassing the MBC and having the turbo on actuator pressure only if she does go in I can tell you...

Will post pics and let you know how I get on.

I know what you mean about taking the car for a spin lol If it was me Paul i'd just make it clear to them that i do not want anyone taking it for a drive. I'd be very cross if someone took mine for a drive:no:

Make a point of recording the current miles on the car with them watching ;)

They were very professional in Sheehy Audi and I was a little worried when my claim was approved because of how clean and original the paint is on my car. I didn't want it made worse as at the moment the bubbles were almost un-noticeable.

Left them in the car on May 31st and they had it finished in 2 days. The work is excellent. I am super happy with the results. You would never know it had any paintwork done. I didn't sleep at all the night before collecting the car with worry.

Well the roof rail was approved but the arch was rejected took a week to approve and another week to get the car in,
they had the car for a week and it came back on friday.....

Not their finest work, the car got delivered as i was arriving and the delivey guy cleared off kinda sharpish..

The guy ive been dealing with had a look round it with me and agreed that it should go back in as the part next to the windscreen where the roofrails sit is now all chipped and there's a lot of overspray on the rubbers. So, im just waiting to hear back from him.

Update on mine.... rang Parklands and they said I need to talk to the bodyshop which to be fair is right as they did the work on behalf of Parklands so should sort it...

Called the bodyshop today and I am off to see them after work so they can look at it...

Will let you know how it works out...

<tuffty/>

update.... bodyshop are going to redo the work as they say it shouldn't have come back.... :)

Im just hoping now that they do a good job of it. I may also speak to the body shop to see if they can do a few stone chips on the cheap seeing as they have the paint mixed up. don't ask you dont get!

OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED), REASON FOR REFUSAL: Claim APPROVED. When I took the car in a most helpful chap took some close up pictures of the area affected, recorded the mileage and chassis number. He said Audi UK would make the decision and he would get back to me within a few days. Called them to chase on the 21st June and was told it had been accepted for 100% of the claim as a good will gesture. Car possibly goes in next week and courtesy car supplied. No paint depth checks were done. I am not sure if it help but the day before I ensured that the car was cleaned and looked immaculate (HD waxed).

When i looked at car to purchase the only fault i could find with the car was rust on the roof rail, knowing this was a warranty issue and should'nt damage my pocket i bought it.
I took it in to my main dealer who could'nt be more helpful, and confirmed it was within the rust warranty, but would have to be checked by the work shop first.
2 cups of coffee and 45 minutes later, i was called to the desk where i was told, "it has been re-painted in the past by an un-authorised paint shop", and as there is no repair logged by Audi against my chasis, my warranty is void.

This pead me off quite a bit, as i did not allow for this cost in the purchase of the car. Has anyone else been told similar? Does it sound like a load of rubbish?

I took mine in yesterday, i stood over the guy whilst he did the paint test when i was told that it had been resprayed, at which point i said thats rubbish, theres no reason for that to have been resprayed. I bought the car used and approved from Audi, and the previous owner was quite old and would always take it to audi for anything, and there was no record of a respray. So, the guy testing my car went back inside came back out, retested and it was fine... I think. I await the conclusion from Audi UK though.....

Paint thickness tests taken and all show original paint so the bodyshop manager felt it was a strong case. Car has F.A.S.H also so fingers crossed.

I have some bubbling in several areas near the roof rails, I can't claim as my car has exceeded the warranty period.

Is this bubbling a major concern? Am I looking at some expensive repair bills or is it worth just leaving?

How long is the paint warranty?

After reading this thred, i went outside to see and low and behold i have a very small bubble, not broken yet, on the right hand side edge of my boot-lid. Just above the light cluster. Cant see any on the rails but i will keep and eye out...

Recieved a call 3 days later saying it had been approved. Guy named John was a nice fella. Booked in for July for TWO WEEKS??? (although i'm grateful) but may go in earlier as I decided not to take the courtesy car. He says they will replace the roof rails, repair the rust and repaint. I thought they would replace the quarters??? Can anyone shed any light on this?

DATE OF CLAIM: June 2010

PS Thanks to the person who started this thread and the guys for posting otherwise I would have paid money to get this done!
