Hope someone else has had this issue.

I have recently installed an RNS-E into my S3 2007 which had a Concert double din unit in. Install has gone well and all works well. I have recoded the Instruments so i get directions in DIS and recoded the Radio/Navigation unit.
All the MFSW functions work but i cannot get it to activate to any voice commands.
As my car didn't have a phone kit i thought there wouldnt be a mic, but i have open the interior light unit and there is a mic there (Round Unit that has a wire that runs into the Alarm sensor unit).

If anyone has any ideas i would be grateful

Thanks

Hmm if you don`t have BOSE and BT preparation what the hell is this mic doing up there? :p

Maybe its the CIA listening to you while driving, lmao

Check your list of extras mate, there`s got to be a reason for that mic

You need to do a SDS hack to enable the mic control through the steering wheel with rns-e

You need to re route your mic wires to your rns-e.

BUT, why have you got a mic then? Do you have blue tooth prep?

I have been asking myself the same question. I even bought a mic of ebay to fit but when i took it apart there was one there!!!

No bluetooth prep!
I think the version of my RNS-E has the hack already as it has no version number at the end of the code on vag com.My RNS-e is a 2009 model if that makes a difference

Is your rns-e the new Hi res unit with the media button on the front ?

You need to check where your microphone is connected. The wires run down the a pillar . If you have no phone prep in the car, I doubt they are connected.

They need to go to the back of the rns-e. The pin out sticker on the rns-e will tell you where the mic in pins are. Connect them and it should work.

Also, check on your rns-e that you have the sds menu on the unit. If you have, you can change the sds language etc. This will confirm if the unit has correct software.

Do you know if the Mic is a round unit or rectangle, as the one in car is round and clips in half way down interior light unit, the one i bought is rectangle!!
I must have SDS already as i can change the language for the voice instructions.

I think i will get a bluetooth kit soon so i will get it all sorted at the same time.

It is not a Hi res unit.

Rectangle mike is OEM, round one isnt. The oem mike clips in nicely into the cluster and lines up with the slats on the outside of the light cluster.

Ok thanks. Not sure what this round one is then.
Is the wiring for the mic present in all cars or do I need to run a pair of wires to the back of the RNS-E?

Many thanks for everyones help
