The BAD news: I rolled my 1999 A3 1.8T sport and after the engineer looked at it, i got a phone call from my insurance company saying my insurance was void because i had not decleared the modifications! I had Lexus rear lights, angel eye head lights, and lowered suspension.
This happened to anyone else?

The GOOD news: Because i had no money to replace my A3, i was forced to buy a car on finance from a garage. Sounds like bad news does'nt it? Nope, i bought an S3.... And what a car.

I've had a permanent smile since i picked my S3 up on Saturday.

Will put pictures up later....:w00t:

LUcky it wasnt worth a few thousand pound then!. The suspension is understandable as it does change the car but the lights! Thered do anything to get out of a claim!. Is it remmaped yet? how much faster does it feel than your a3?

Why didn't you declare the mods??? You would've only paid a small premium for them few bits. I declare everything I put on my car just to make sure the insurance can't get out of paying up in the event of an accident. They'll use any excuse not to!!

What was the A3 worth?

The A3 was only worth £1500 to me, i purchased the car with all the mods. I assumed the suspension, and head lights were standard, and thought rear lights are not a performance modification so no need to declare.

The S3 is standard, and loads quicker than my A3 1.8T sport. ;-)

Congrats on your new car, post up pictures. What was you A3 worth/ Are you breaking it?

insurance is hit and miss, I know a guy who had his brandnew beetle keyed on rear quarter (little chav bastids), the insurance assessor came round and said problem is the paint wont look the same, you need a who respray. He then continued to stratch the rest of the car! Sounds bonkers but its true.

His name wasn't Adam by any chance? I know a guy with exactly the same story!

Best one ive heard is my Friends got a Sylvia S15 Spec r Had a light tap in front needed bumper headlight and side skirt they wrote it off as couldnt get the parts..!!!

Gave him 9k for it he Bought it back for £3,000..!!! bits cost him £750 inc painting. awesome machine owes him less than £4k now..!!!! yeah its cat d but who cares at that price..

In regards to your Audi did you buy it from a garage or private..???

My friend had a st170 bought from Ford which had been lowered had optional leather Recaros fitted smashed it as he "presumed" car was standard after a few weeks arguing with insurance company he had to get some other stuff from Ford they actually paid out

Most people forget about optional extra's they just think they have to declare mods.. even rear parking sensors for example can cause issues if you get a dickhead assesor

Since your insurance was void, due to the mods, do the Police not get involved? Since you were technically driving without insurance?

Great news on the S3! New style?

The Lexus rear lights & angel eye head lights may raise an eyebrow to possible car thieves which is exactly how the insurance company will see it and probably rightly so. A Thief may consider doing something hoping he may find other goodies in your car compaerd to another that doesn't stand out at all.
Saying that I have to agree with the previous comment let the insurance company know everything. Don't give them any excuse. This may sound silly and not make sense, but they may not have charged you any extra even if you had told them !
Also all these people who have changed their alloys/tyres should mention it.

Optional extras? surely thats un-necassary, wheels yes, but tyres??
Have you told them about you centre arm rest, and BOSE?

Every Cloud dude and all that!!!:kissmyrings:

yep i agree, all OEM parts will ensure you are fully covered as long as your not running an R8 spoiler on an S3 :)

hmmm, for those above, its not all about the A3 being faster than the S3 or vice versa...theres so much more to it than that, its a totally different drive....even when imy misus A3 is running with the map, we will still use mine mainly for the daily commute purely because the comfort levels and how it delivers the power

Insurance companies are the biggest legal con going. But you must have it! Then in the event of a claim they try and squirm out of it!

All these fabricated injury claims are to blame which is why i didn't claim for an injury in my accident - since i didn't have an injury and i didn't want to lower myself to a money grabbing liar!

might aswell jump on the bandwagon matey....sign of the times, adapt or get left behind...i hate the Americanised culture and things will become worse before they get better......but make hay whilst the sun shines is what i say cos 9/10 nobody else will give you a second thought given the same situation (although i most likely would have felt bad doing so like you)

Someone I know (no not me) spent almost an hour on the phone to his lawyer, going through where and how he should hurt before going to the doctors, meaning he could claim an extra 2k from the personal injury claim following a minor bump.

That is pretty said lol, but hes the one whos 2k up. Some i knows ended up getting over 5k for "whiplash"( she was first offered £1500) as she just kept saying no to what they offered, i think shes a bitch personally as thats taking the ****.!!

I was told i could have the car back, but i would have to pay the recovery, and storage fee. So i told them to stick it, so the garage are breaking it for spares..
The police were involved at the crash, but they have not contacted me.. So fingers crossed..

Depending on the fees need paying, I'm surprised you are not taking it back!?

I could understand it, if it was extortionate to release the car, but it wouldn't be classed as CatD unless it's gone through insurance, so you could have easily moved the car on complete as repairs or spares on fleabay. That's what I would have done than to lose the £1500 or so it's worth outright.

It was classed as a Cat B until they decided to void my insurance. The roof was crushed, and all windows gone....

in my experience insurance co,s usually try to knock you down on payout if you have not declared all mods...so if they say you are getting nothing seems harsh, the worst thing is it is a declared accident too and you will have to declare it on your next insurance :sorry:

Well here are pictures of my S3..

Was told it was standard suspension!

Windows are tinted, sets the car off..

Cheers all!
