Is anybody running one? Is so, what sort and where are they mounted. Thanks

I could not believe oil temps after just 1 lap of Ring! I f people are not running one, a sub 9 minute lap will wreck your engine!

lol Guess Ill find out when I go later in the year. Will monitor with the liquid gauge

I imagine sandwich plate on oil filter and off to where my old drivers side smic sat.

I remember caning my ibiza orudn the ring on a really hot weekend.. 29'C all weekend.. the cars (then) chargecooler would be scalding after one lap and I had to keep dumping the water and refilling from the gents sink with fresh cooler water..
no oil temp gauge in the car but I shudder to think how hot it actually was running.
it runs 108'C with its 13 row mocal cooler when i race now.. so lord knows what it was at in stock mode after 8 and a half minutes of death

I was doing about 8 mins 40 secs. It got to around 130 degrees outside temp of 20 degrees max.

is that why you no longer use a chargecooler? I always thought there only good for initial cooling, hence why used to drag racing, but they cant keep up for anything more.

8mins 40 is honourable

It did die there though. Turbo disintegrated and there was damage to the rings. Strangely, the bores were perfect. 130 does seem very high I know, problem is, you can not really look at any gauges when you are trying at the ring. I am happy enough to get round in 1 piece!

What size cooler will fit where the original intercooler goes?

8min 40 is a great time. Take it you know your way around the place then! Best i managed was 8:45 in my M3 (with blockages!). Guessing the S3 isn't std then!

It has a stage 1 remap, ast coilovers neuspeed roll bars, 6 pot tarox brakes, defcon bushes, intercooler and formula r tyres. I have been a few times though. Had a great lap with a few of us following the ring taxi which my mate has on video. He did a sub 8 min 30 in a relatively standard engined 306 gti6! ( yes there are videos to prove!)

true. mine did not sustain cooling and heat soaked.
large fmic fixed all of that

:)

Anyone know what is biggest that will fit where original cooler is?

16-19 row with a thermostatic plate, can't go wrong then as the oil will heat up but you've got the added benefits of having a larger surface area cooler for when you do decide to give it some lead.

A 13 row is many times better then the standard oil cooling system however, really depends on its use.

What width? Will these fit in the space of the original i/c?

A 19 row is 235x147mm, so yes i'd think it would sit rather nicely in the side of the bumper.

You can fit one right behind the front grill were the four rings are. Can't remember the size mate but it just fits on top of the FMIC and works a treat.

A little thread revival.

I've been looking into buying an oil cooler and fittings with the plan to mount it on top of my FMIC. I've done some research and it looks like a 16 row cooler will be too big to fit above the cooler so I've decided on a 13 row Mocal cooler.

With regards to the fittings I've been advised to use an 80 degree sandwich plate so that the oil isn't over cooled. While I'm fitting the sandwich plate I'm thinking it would be a good plan to fit a temp gauge too. Can anyone recommend the best place to run a feed for the gauge, would it be off the sandwich plate?

As for the other pipes and fittings, I'm pretty clueless as to whether I need a certain diameter or if they are all a standard size.

Any advice would be great.
