Right guys, decided to facelift the front of my car (2004 54 S-Line) to the later shape. I did not fancy the idea of an S line bumper as I prefer the look of the standard facelift bumper with the Votex skirt.

So I started at 10am this morning with this... A 2005 55 Sportback front bumper and a 2007 S line front grille and bonnet. (grille not in pic)

I removed the standard grille and swapped the chrome onto my ebay special lightly damaged S line grille. So this was my car at 10 am.

I got it jacked up and removed the wheels and set about the unscrewing of the front edge of the wheel arch liner. There are 4 x Torx bolts in here.

There is also a sneaky one hiding behing the liner holding the bumper upwards to the wing

Furthermore there is a 10mm bolt holding the bumper just under the headlight. Couldnt get a pic of this because i didnt remove the liners fully, just stuck my hand in the gap and undid it.

There are 2 other torx bolts on each front corner on the underside that look like this

There are also 3 bigger lugs in the same area that need to be unscrewed.

Once these are all undone you have to pop the bonnet and remove the 3 across the top of the grille.

You can now slide the bumper off. It will be tight by the wings, you need to pull it away front the wing to pop the slide it sits in.

As you can see i rested it on an old dust sheet because the fogs were still attached so i unclipped them

The new bumper was fitting in reverse order and it looked like this. As you can see the old bonnet doesnt fit!

Dont forget to test the fogs were working before putting and screws back in!

The bonnet was simple swapped over ( took around 15 mins of twiddling about to line it up correctly ) but here it is finished. Sorry I didnt take any pics of swapping the bonnet because I gave up on doing it myself and called my dad round to give me a hand! Its all rather obvious though!

I have a full votex kit to go on so look out for the next installment when it should look more like this

I'm happy to answer Q's anyone may have on the swap. Took about 3 hours all in inclusive of 2 tea breaks! :) Oh and if anyones interested in my plates, they are pressed metal but of the French variety, not German! Mainly because the German ones are so played out these days and the French font is smaller and looks cool IMHO!

its definately an improvement! Did you get the bonnet resprayed or were you lucky to get it in the right colour? I'm looking for the exact same bonnet myself LOL

Good work their mate!

looks good now but will look awesome with the votex lip.

I also have my votex stuff waiting to be fitted (But keeping my pre-facelift) but just want to get my ICE and stuff in first :p (when the weathers sorted that is which seems like never atm!) lol

Looks top notch though - great colour match and looking forward to seeing more pics for when the kits on it :D

Got in in the right colour! (Although the shade is ever so slightly lighter)

S-Line bumper would have looked better, like Matt Andrew's conversion. But good work and respect for the guide.

Thanks, Although I like the S line bumper, it looks too thin around the leading edge and makes the front look top heavy. I much prefer the Votex lip.

Also I got all the bits needed for less than £230 so the whole lot cost me less than getting an S line bumper! ;) Beggars cant be choosers, the rest of the cash is being spent on the bathroom! I promised this after she found me outside dismantling my car on valentines day! :nunu:

where did you get the bonnet from? All the ones I see on ebay are pre-facelft & even if not, its collection only. Not handy living in Scotland.

I got it off Ebay! Well he was advertising "breaking 2006 A3" so i rang him and he had a bonnet, he delivered it for £20 too!

Ive just read the guide by Mattandrew where he did the conversion to the s-line bumper. On his guide he mentioned buying a side-to-side reinforcer... wont one be needed for this?

tbh I trimmed mine down on the corners given S3 has larger fog areas to fit round, works 100% & saved me £40 odd for new reinforcement bar, only take of little bit bottom far corners, 1 inch up & 15cm's along bottom at angle

If your not putting the S3 bumper you dont need to do anything to the bumper reinforcer.

looks nice well done........... is it me or is the gap between the bumper and bonnet suppose to be that big ?????????

I like it haha. Thats commitment fella's!!!!

Nice to see you got your priorities set in the right order too ;)

Car looks a lot better by the way

The gap is a bit big, the bonnet fits fine but the bumper sits slightly low and i'm not sure why! I need to take it off and try again.

and the Xenons???
me? err promised myself a break on MODing - trick is to avoid conversation with Nigel LOL

For the Xenons, still would need washer bottle (not brave enough to cut the hole), pump, pipes, jet heads & light switch, range control module, fair bit of wiring, front & rear leveling sensors, VAGcom - that all combined helps keep the wallet shut LOL

hi, im new to this and i am really intrested in doing a conversion on my 2004 audi a3... i believe lee has done the conversion his car which is the same as mine...

can i buy a normal standard bumper from a facelift model and get a s-line grille? will the s-line grille fit in the standard bumper? and also can i use any standard bonnet from a facelift model or does it have to be sline?

Thanks

Yes sline grill will fit in normal bumper, and yes any bonnet from the facelift model will do.
