How often do you have to change the fuel filter?

The reason i ask is because recently my car has started to take a little more time to start in a morning, it takes a few seconds before it catches and fires up, once it's been started in a morning, it will start fine all day. Then once it's parked up for the night and i come too it the following morning it takes a few seconds to catch?

Fuel filter do we think? I haven't a clue when it was last changed, i just know the car gets serviced every 10K.

Thanks

Every 40,000 but if it aint been changed ,id do it for the sake of it,i think 1 of the glow plugs maybe down, dont think its the filter. If it goes well and dont throw black smoke out all the time, filters ok.:icon_thumright:

I have just replaced a glow plug on cylinder one because that was throwing up a fault on the ECU.

I had my mate scan the car with his 'snap on' diagnostic machine and the car come up with zero faults.

This will probably sound a silly question but can you tell me where the fuel filter is and is it just a screw off and screw back on jobby?

Do you think it's running some 'redex' or the likes through it?

Thanks for the reply.

Fuel filter is on the left side of the engine bay, metal cover with rubber coated pipes going into it. Close to coolant tank and window washer tank.

Just off the top of my head it's infront of the coolant tank with 4 pipes coming out of the top of it yeah?

Thanks fella!

Would you replace with genuine Audi or would a after market filter do the job? I don't mind buying Audi but i doubt I'd be able to get a genuine one tomorrow, I'd like to do it this weekend if i could get the filter.

There is two shapes of the fuel filter for BKD engines in A3. You need to check which one fits your vehicle. The only way you can do it is by removing the old one.

Just get both from eurocarparts and ask if you can return the one that does not fit :icon_thumright: .
