RS3 spied!!

Will only be worth if it has the 2.5 lump in it. Do you think it will look much different than that? Also why the different alloys?

thats a s3 with a shagged bumper and different rims :asskicking:

definitely not RS3.. it would have many more exterior changes (the oval exhausts!), and would be based on MY11.. who knows whats under the hood though!

Just found a pound down the back of the sofa ... just another 37,999 to go lol

Great! - The New RS3, held together with gaffa tape..... (don't leave home without it!).

In all seriousness, don't look much of an RS to me, simply looks like a Orange S3 with different alloys. Anyone else notice anything different except the 'snow plough' front bumper and the gaffa tape holding the rear bumper on?

Yeh but they arn't likely to do testing in full rs3 clothes as the press will get pics before audi want to officially release!!

The other thing i thought was that if they are releasing the rs3 this will be a last shot for this shape a3 although you would expect maybe another year or so out of it, then the new s3 will prob be at least 2 years from now!!

Yeh, whats with the 2 different sets of alloys???? Why have different styles front and rear!

Maybe it was engine testing so shoe horned it into an S3 to keep prying eyes at bay!

front alloys look bigger to me, maybe to fit the brakes

19" wheels all round
TT-RS brake set up
Front arches rolled - possibly indicating a wider track
Additional cooling in the front bumper
Low at the back due to the fact it's pulling out of a junction

...so they want to test the RS3 on the road discretely, what do they do? whack a half ***** S3 skin on it in SOLAR ORANGE and stick two different types of alloy on it because no-one will notice that in and around ingolstadt will they :)

They'll not notice it at Ingolstadt given it's at the 'ring ;)

Bonnet air intakes? Hhhmmmm. A la MTM RS4 Clubsport? I don't know about that.

Oh yeah, Jamie, any write up and more pics of your initial days with your RS?

The front bumper looks butchered as well as odd alloys - there is no way IMO that that is the RS3

If thats the case why would Audi be out developing an older generation chassis? The front bumper is modified because they are checking air flow for the new engine before finalising the design I reckon! Unless of course they are testing a new generation chassis under the old body?

Also they are obviously aware of scrubbing issues with the wheel arch screw when putting 19's on a SB so need some gaffer tape to hold the bumper instead!!

If anyones interested, the front wheels look like the optional 19's from the scirocco brochure.

Lets hope that skin is temp & its just testing of the mechanics as that would be tbh **** poor styling if you ask me for an RS car, considering the new A3 isnt that far away, why arent they building the RS3 on that chassis as the 8P is mega old on its what 3rd facelift now, its tbh a joke, I buy a car for number of things not for just the figures written on a scrap of paper.

Yup this is defo the RS3 mule. Rime to go to audi and get my order in then me thinks. I wonder If I can get insured on an RS model at 25 though?

£38K is a bit steep! Be interesting to see how it performs against the alleged BMW M1 running around 350 HP...

38 K for a Sportback !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gotta be kidding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Breaks my heart paying 17K for an A3 no matter how bleeding quick it is

Totally and utterly agree. I still think the S cars as a whole are poorly styled, just a wee bit more than S-Line, with bumpers and valances seeing most of the changes. Even the TT-RS and RS5 aren't that much more than the S variants. Hopefully a new approach to styling is intended, but only time will tell. VW seem to me to be more adventurous with styling at the mo.

If the RS3 arrives on the 8P platform it will be a waste. Hopefully this is just a mule with old clothes on and when the new A3 arrives we'll start to see RS3 mules on the new platform. Historically Audi GMBH released RS versions towards the end of a models life cycle, but that has changed recently IMO. Also, sure I read somewhere that they only do 3 RS cars at a time, so that'll be TT-RS, RS5 and RS6. Demand outstripping supply so they are rethinking this rule? ....baited breath.

Lets not get ahead of our selves here, we still have no guarantee this thing will ever be produced

LMAO Wrong, thats the Audi chief exec.

Not sure I can stand another RS3 thread, been let down to many times.

To be fair to Autoexpress...there have been quite a number of motoring sites who are showing these pictures at the moment..Reputable sites..I actually think they will build it..and for the first time genuinely..have a look at the competition at the moment..every hot hatch is running 250bhp+ ..some 300 e.g. focus rs..and BMW have been testing the 135i M which will be running 350horses...so I hardly think Audi would be driving around in a Solar orange scrappage scheme S3 for any other reason then testing. The engine is there..the development costs will be small due to the model being old...it's getting obvious that a new Audi super hatch is in the making.

Yes but if £38k is correct then you have to add another £5k at least to get it to a spec that any other make would call std. so a minimum of £43k for an A3 ? Sorry but you would have to have a screw loose to pay £8k more than a 3ltr supercharged S4 in basic trim for a souped up A3.

Indeed you are correct..however there is one thing I would like to add to this quote..Let's not forget you can spec a souped up golf to a similar spec S3 for £38k...so for an RS badge which always commands stupid money then it doesn't seem that unfeasible..even at that price...and yes, the comparisons with other cars you can buy will always be there..whether you compare it to an S4 or a boxster, cayman or whatever..someone will buy it. And that is probably be as they will be buying the best in class. So to compare it to other cars shall we say..which there are many for that matter..is not what Audi are trying to do. Either way though, yes...it is stupid money.:icon_thumright:

Oh..and yes..I'd have one lol. Even over an S4.

But somewhere along the line people must realise they are being ripped off ? If Audi can make a supercharged 3ltr v6 with brakes to stop it and suspension to handle the power...for an S4 for £36k....then you aint getting good value with an A3 at £38k
An RS badge means nothing !! its just a badge...99% of the population wouldn't know what it meant over any other badge...I mean a Skoda has an RS badge...If you want street cred or just want to feel proud when you park it up your not going to be buying an Audi anyway..
Maybe its just me but if someone wants to pay £40k+ for a badged up A3.....then i suppose its up to them.
