ko3s figures?

i have a 2002 1.8t aum ko3s i was just wondering what kind of figures i could expect from a ko3s on a stage 2 map?
also does it matter what fmic you have or can a 250 quid one be just as good as most of them?
and how easy are they to fit?
 
I ran a £200 ebay FMIC on my last AGU engine, fitted with a ko3S and turbo back exhaust, it made various figures from 238bhp to 225 bhp depending on the dyno, with all of them showing over 250lbft.

230bhp/260lbft is really about the limit of the k03S, some tuners claim they will reach 240, but in reality it just doesn't really happen.

Still, a 230bhp FWD 1.8T will be a very fast car....

I had similar power out of an identical engine, but on a Stage 1 map and a MBC.

Did you ever have it dyno'd Welly? would be nice to see what figures it made.

Interestingly with the ko3S, due to the fact that at peak power boost has dropped to 11-12psi, a car running 20psi peak boost can have exactly the same peak power as a car running 14psi peak boost, due to how they both drop to similar levels at the top end.

Would be interesting to see how yours made the torque Welly, I'd imagine it to be slightly lower than mine due to the 15.5psi boost, but to come in fairly savagely with the use of an MBC, where the N75 feeds it in a BIT more progressively.

When I tried an MBC in mine at 20psi, it was truly savage

No mate, I got bored of not being able to put the power down at all!

Wish I had really, was making G/S of between 179 - 184 depending on how it felt that day! 184.6 was the best I ever saw out of it.

I used to love the power delivery with the MBC turned up, but the ECU used to go absolutely mental after a while. I guess it used to calculate boost based on airflow vs. TB angle, know it was getting more than requested and then decide to do something about it. Trouble being that, with the N75 removed, it had no boost control at all, so it just used to cut the spark instead! Used to feel like you'd driven into a brick wall when it happened!

Good fun while it lasted, and still going well for the kiddie who bought it from Bristol - it came back to see me a few weeks back for me to diagnose a shot coil! And then it stole my 12mm spanner (which I stupidly left on the scuttle).

D'oh.

I'm toying with the idea of an MBC on the S3 - I miss the power delivery they give.
 
that's pretty good then in terms of airflow, mine gave ebtween 187-189 most days, so similar numbers, think the highest I ever logged was 189.11

How did it compare speed wise to the S3? the mapped S3 I drove whilst over at the ring was noticeably slower than my A3, but it was only giving in the 190's from the MAF, so perhaps not a great map
 
When I first got the S3, it was slower, deffo. But then again, it wasn't happy.

Fitting an alternator which actually working was the first step on the road to recovery! Then the inclusion of an N75J made a big difference - the C Valve's power delivery IMO is plop.

Now it's booting off the MAP sensor at 1.54 bar - when it's not leaking - and making up to and past 210 g/s it is deffo faster. No doubt. Maybe not off of the line due to mechanical drag and a stupid 1st gear. But then again - there isn't any wheel spin. Then again, the REVO Stage 1 has been cranked right up as far as it will go, and I am going to give it even more timing using a software tool (with careful logging!).

I think an MBC will make it boost better and longer - at least that's my previous experince!

Also, bear in mind that with the discussion Prawn and I were having above revolves around the AGU engine with a K03S. The AGU engine has a large port head - where as the AUM doesn't.

You should make good figures (expect 215+) but the heads on the AGU engines flow much better than the AUM.

and how much cheaper?
sorry for all the questions i just dont know anything about audi yet being a previous vauxhall owner :p
 
Thats OK mate. Best bet is to keep an eye on ebay.

To do a K03S swap you don't need to remove the head anyway, so it's an 'as and when' job.

To be honest though, I'd not bother changing to a large port unless you were running a ko4 hybrid or larger, for the small ports, it's already been shown that the small port AUm head can flow 230bhp with the ko3S.

Having smaller ports means increased gas velocity, which apparently helps increase low down torque and response.

my AUM certainly feels more responsive at low RPM than the AGU did, although that could of course be down to the DBW/cable throttle difference
 
To be honest, I'm using a K04 on mine so can't really compare to the K03S - but I went from a small port to a large port, noticed no lack of torque, but better higher end power.

But then again, the K04 pumps a spot more air than the K03S.

You needs a few things for that fmic aswell, think its just two things. around £20. Prawn made a thread about the ebay fmic which has everything you need to know in it. and yes most people fit it themselves, with the loss of fog lights.
 
My brothers k03s golf is showing about 220bhp and 200lbs from liquid gauge. Got an unknown map on it though. Peaks 17psi and I think it was holding about 13 if I remember correctly.

was it hard to take the fogs and plastic bits off the bumper?
 
I didn't have fogs in my bumper, but I've done it on audi1.8tdans as well, and it's dead easy.

WHen you get the bumper off you'll realise that fitting it is actually really easy, you just need to take your time over it, measure once, and cut twice.

It can all be fitted behind the bumper, so keep trimming bits slowlyand all will be fine :)
