Hi guys/gals

had my 2.0tdi 140 for a month now and very much enjoying it... no it's not an s3,but in comparison to my 100bhp '05 astra it doesn't feel far off!!

so far have got about 500 miles out of a full tank, 300 of which have been crusing at 80 or so on the motorway, but was expecting a bit more... was wondering if i was being unreasonable to expect more?!?!?

now i know the d.i.s is not really to be trusted that much, but was also expecting more than the 42-44mpg on the motorway it was showing.

although i promised myself (or the missus i should say!) i wouldn't touch the car in terms of mods, am contemplating some sort kind of engine mod on my current 140 or trying to find a 170. is there a noticable difference between the 2??

obviously would have to take into consideration the massive increase in insurance cost for a modded car, but was also wondering the difference in fuel consumption in a modded 140 vs a standard 170. i have read a few threads on here that some engine mods have increased fuel economy (if you don't have a heavy foot) so was interested to see if there was much difference between a standard 140, modded 140 and standard 170

To be fair mate I have a remapped 140 which is roughly running the same as a 170 and I got 65mpg average on my last long motorway journey at 60mph. I average 38-40mpg town driving like a nutter. I'd recommend a remap for the extra power. Unfortunately I can't compare mpg before and after as I had the car remapped almost as soon as I got it.

500 miles to a tank sounds about right to me.

Motorway driving I get between 30mpg-70mpg

Dont bother with a 170, you've got the 140, I got a stage 1 AMD remap for mine that took the car to 198bhp! Fuel economy is about the same, maybe a tiny bit worse now but am getting approx 500 miles to a tank, and majority is motorway driving too. :icon_thumright:

Ahh the famous AMD magical mystery rolling road, got to love that place. A PD140 will remap to a real world of 180-185 without it effecting mpg and there are lots of companies out there that can do it easily for you.

Had a second rolling road done at a caterham tuner/race car builder next door to my mates garage...196bhp!

I thought the figure was far to high at first, but AMD done a before remap at 165bhp, and the remap was +33bhp, then had a very similar figure with the caterham boys next door about a month ago!

I have the 170 with a +35 remap and haven't actually drained the tank yet - I just keep it topped up! Waiting to be paid on Thursday and will be pretty empty by then so I'll let you know what I get out of the tank!

Sounds like your 140 has the same MPG and fuel tank range as my 170!

I managed to get 500 miles on a motorway trip before the light on the dash came on. And it was driven quite fast. Would probably squeeze another 80 miles out of it. Mine's 140 PD mind you.

Mixed city / motorway I usually get 430-450 miles to a tank.

Have to add I've got Bluefin map on it.

My 140 used to get between 500 and 600 to a tank on motorways

My 170 now gets between 350 and 500 on motorways

I get around 580-600 to a tank, that is with mostly motorway driving and some town driving. mine is the 140 tdi.

Doesn't a remap make the turbo more prone to blowing?

not a diesel but i was surprised to find that i get 550 miles to a tank outta my 1.6 sport

Mini Hijack, but kind of on topic : how much did the remap effect your insurance ? (just out of interest)

Thanks for the response people.

perhaps i should be expecting a little more out of the tank, as there is 13.333 gallons in there and at 500 miles this equates to roughly 37 mpg, and as i said half of it was motorway driving, and the other half driving it like a granny with the missus in it, so should be doing more i think.

interesting to hear it's similar to the 170 though.

any people in the bristol area used the 1 and only revo place for their re-map, or germania in newport, that could shed some light on their experience?!?

i would also be interested in hearing what sort of price hike on the insurance was after telling them about the re-map.

I have a 55 plate 140
I recently drove 120 miles to swindon and back and i got 59MPG. I was really pleased - if i had carried on driving i could have had 700 miles on a full tank maybe a bit more??
Hope that helps

I get around 550 miles to a tank in my 140 with a 50:50 mix of fast country lanes and 50mph cruising in traffic

you will get more mpg as the engine beds in , usally about 8000miles mate

not sure if this was aimed at me or not... if so, mines a 2004 53 plate...not plush enough for a new one at this time in my life!!

I get 53mpg on a 6 mile journey to work....the most ive had is 68mpg at 60mph on the motorway with a tail wind and very careful right foot and if i fill it up will show about 635 miles on a tank which amazes me when i think how far i could drive on one tank...

N8 I've seen your seats in an RS4 today. They look mint! Like thrones! I mean it in a good way. :icon_thumright:

I have a remapped 140 (revo) and doesn't matter if i'm doing 65 or 85 on motor way display never passe 42 mpg but i usually get anything from 470-530 out a full to the brim tank with mixed driving. That's topping up once the dis reaches 0 miles as i reckon there's always a good bit left in the tank still, never heard the fuel pump buzzing or stutter yet anyway!

similar to mine, anything between 70 - 100 is around 42mpg, similar range, but doubt mine is re-mapped!

Well I'm now coming to the end of my tank at 360 miles and the DIS is saying 50 miles remaining... This ain't all that great but seeing as it has all been town or very spirited back road driving I'm fairly happy with that. About 3 weeks since I filled up so can't complain! Look forward to using a tank mainly on motorways and seeing what I end up with!

I recently did a proper mpg test. Fill it up, empty, fill up and work it out. I got 56.3 mpg. Mainly motorway.

2005 2.0 tdi sport 140.
