Baited By An evo.

I cant stand corsa's even if there quick, so even if I got toasted by one I'd still be shaking my head and thinking why would you spend all that money on something like that, but each to there own, world would be a boring place if people didnt do things different from the norm.

Hi,
I previously owned an Evo 8 and now moved over to the Audi. The difference is night and day... however the car in question seems to be a Evo 7 FQ300.
You would definately need to bolt on a GT30 or similar to compete but thats only half of the story. These cars handle exceptionally well and thats the first big difference i noticed when driving my Audi over my evo. The Evo had "Active Yaw Control" and without getting too technical it means that the car could be one wheel drive at times depending on traction/road conditions. Around corners and pulling out of roundabouts the car was like a hot knife through butter. I really do miss my car.

which one is the better real road car in your experience?
considering running costs of servicing, insurance, quality of build etc??

EVO is a built to be quick racecar for the road, which the S3 sure is'nt

Always fancied an evo, but I know I would get sucked into the ££ game of more and more mods.. I cant help myself.
Daily driver tho.. hmmm

interested to hear your thoughts as an owner of both breeds

VERY nearly got an EVO 8 or a 2003 Impreza STI Prodrive before i got the S3, test drove both, as nice as they were all i could see was £ signs scrolling past the windscreen whenever i put my foot down. Did the math and you either seriously have to want one really bad in order to justify the costs, or you have to have more money than sense, a car is car at the end of the day, thats all. For now i'm happy with a mapped S3 (cheers Bill), makes a MUCH nicer daily drive with a MUCH better interior too :)

I love Evo's but I'd never have one as a daily...weekend trackslag/sunday hooning toy yes but not every day.

We had a bit of a pursuit with an Evo 10 the other week....didnt last long!

None of the above, by the time "vehicle making off" was said it was in the distance :lmfao:

Lmao I like that.

Was talking to a guy before over his RS4, new model and he said he just sold his evo 8 and he said in terms of performance the evo was the better car all round. He actually said it scared the **** out of him sometimes. Lol if a car scares you then its not for you.

My Audi A4 is the better road car hands down. Its smoother, quieter and more refined. However as you said the EVO was designed to be a quick race car so comparing them is not fair.
With regards to tuning i’m finding my A4 2.0T DTM is more expensive to tune than the EVO. A KO4 kit will set me back about £3000 ...I threw similar money on my EVO 8 and it was nearing 400BHP.
The running costs are indeed very high, insurance, tracker subscription, service every 6months or 4500miles, but of course buyers are already aware of this when looking for one.

This is really interesting; the build quality is the only bad thing I have heard about Evos and Imprezas over the years. But is it really that bad?!

Yes, the costs of running them can be high, but you don't have to mod them.

The running costs are high whether you modify them or not.

Haha, OK, someone coming from a 1.2 Clio to an S3 to an Evo wouldn't have to modify them (to start with ;)!
