Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me,

I have a 2005 Plate, Audi A3

I currently had a Single DIN Headunit and have recently modified my dash to fit a Double DIN Headunit,

In the process i had to move the Manual heater controls down, but once i had done that i realised that the cable in which the heater controls where connected to no longer reach?

I have instructed AUDI of the modification and they have told me that the cable used is factory standard only to a short lenth, as its very similar to a Push Bike Brake Cable.

The only other way Audi have instructed is to convert my manual controls to Automatic which they said it would cost me over 1500.00 including new wiring and heater controls.

Does anyone know another way round this or a cheaper wiring specialist?

Thank You for your time

i want to do the same thing. how did you get on?

i did it with no fuss, i bought a double din climate unit and all is well

He is talking about a manual system with rotory knobs.

Just a thought, maybe the older 8L Audi might have longer cables that could be adapted? There must be a few kicking around the breakers you can check.

Does anyone know how to rectify this problem?

Thanks

If Audi say its similar to something on a push bike? Check out a few Motor bike shop's as there is a universal throttle cable that you can buy incase yours snap's its about 10 quid but might be just what you need, or if you need a harder internal wire they do universal speedo cables aswell!
look up a company called Custom Fastener's they will have what you want or Hien Gerike.

Gaz

I dont think there is a "proper" fix for this as all cars with double dins came with climate control as standard. Modifying the cable, or changing it to some universal item as suggested is your only answer.

I don't know much about air conditioning but have been told its near impossible to retrofit, If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

I know the climate control could still be retrofitted without AC, but does anyone know what would be involved if I had a donor car?

well it would be almost a complete stripdown i think mate im only speculating though, probably cheaper to swap if you added the man hours to do it im sure someone will be along to confirm and tbh aircon aint all that great either

I've seen a couple of double din's with heater rotary knobs, do you think if i could just use their cables if i got them froma scrap yard? how hard would this be to take them out too?

Thanks

why dont you just cut and extend the wires any garage should beable to cut and solder extensions for you
