Hi all i might have a go into installing this tomorrow any ideas what wires i need to connect it has 6 wires

1 positive + VE
2 Earth -VE
3 Reverse light ( in passenger footwell
4 Dipping side mirrors (if fitted)
5 Dipping side mirrors ( iff fitted)
6 Interior light pin 1

been told its when the interior light is on the mirror wont dim

any tips on wiring it olds_kool? i was thinking of adding a switch somewhere

if i remember correctly i used connections already there for ambient lighting, so it only works when lights are switched on

good idea my only concern is if it dims and you dont want it to? thats my reason for the switch

and thanks again to mark for getting the pin numbers for me

i have the cover for the wiring however i dont have the back plate for the glass for the cap to clip onto, do you have it kev?

That's the idea of making sure it doesn't get activated by the interior light or when you are in reverse gear. Any other time, if it dims it is for a reason.

I am interested in this retro fit and the parts used. The sources for pins 1, 2 and 3 would be good to see documented.

i take your point GSB, having looked at the newer dimming mirrors they have a switch on them just makes me wonder why they have them unless they dont have them wired to the interior light. i just dont want to come unstuck if it does dim for no reason, even though it shouldnt do. I think what i will do is fit it without switch and see how i go.

My Mercedes had one and my BMW has one, neither have a switch. I think you'll be fine without, so long as you have the interior light and reverse light feeds connected.

Keep us informed of how it goes, I really miss this on my S4 and would love to do the retro fit. A shame it's not a plug and play retro fit like it was on my Merc.

Good luck.
