SKY Broadband users

just a heads up, our internet has been lagging for a little while and we have been looking to sort it. 02 rang us and reconed they can get 17mg to my door.

Speed checks over the last month or so show only 3mg comming in. i ring sky up about it before and they point blankly say thats all i can get. so i put up with it.

seems today after i tell them im going to leave to go to 02 that they can by magic, turn my speed up to 18mg. Fkers!!

So just a heads up... to sky users.

The internet speed you receive is based on what your incoming line can handle. I would check this first before switching suppliers as you may well only get the same speed from O2. Notice they state "up to" ? My incoming line can only handle 3mb but my Sky broadband is upto 20mb unlimited bandwidth. Unlimited bandwidth is the reason I have it, I work from home and don't want to run out of bandwidth halfway through the month.
But hey, I claim it back as a business expense anyway :icon_thumright:

my line can handle 18mg max. i have the "upto" 20mg package also. Had no problems up until a month or so ago, for some reason they just turned the speed down. untill i catch em out of corse!! just makes you wonder how many people are paying for a service they aint getting.

True jojo - I worked for them (Telewest for 8 years) but like Alpine i can't get it as i'm in the sticks now

My mate has 50meg from Virgin - So fast, mental speed - I downloaded a podcast on my iPhone; took about 12 seconds...!

Theoretical speed could be 24mb but because its so unlikely they call it upto 20mb. If your getting 3mb now its likely you will get about that with O2.

Fibres coming but wil take a good few years to come to everyone.

missunderstanding me again peeps! lol . my line can/does now get 18mg. sky told me i could not get no more than 3mg. sky lied. until i tell them im leaving to goto 02. they by magic tell me i can actually get 18mg.

i now get 18mg, like i should of to stat off with. sky are naughty little boys and girls. my router now reads: DownStream Connection Speed 17965m

Im with virgin. Blooody fantastic. I had some mishap with them in which i complained about them overcharging me by accident which resulted in me getting 50meg for a month for free!! HEHEHAHAH!! OOO that was wicked. Put it this way. I put 3 films to (legally) download and ontop i had the wireless on the ps3 downloading a game and i thought.. meh i'll have a shower but just before, my mrs rang me for about 15/20 mins. Curiously just after i put the phone down i chekced on the downloads.. ALL DONE! then checked on the ps3.. all done!! Amazing! Another was, i had my main comp running and downloading, and all 3 of my sisters, bro in law and me was on the laptops wirelessly and i did a quick speedtest and was getting 48meg!! some good stuff!!

Exactly!!

Who wants to be able to download a film in 5 minutes when you can download a whole song in 5 days!

And I just love the fax machine type sound of the dial up trying to connect!
