Its not been a cheap month for me, has this one.

MOT on the first revealed and advisory for the handbrake (which is crap). I sort of put that to the back of my mind as I have a gearbox for hills....

Anyway, drove the other S3 for a few miles last week, and the brakes (by comparison to mine) are fantastic.

Has a look at my front discs and pads. The pads must be utter sh*te. Not only do the rattle in the caliper, but they appear to have the contact surface of approx. a gnat's ****. Adding to that, they have fractured the disc. Annoying as those discs are only a month or so old.

So I bit the bullet and spent £200 on all new gear for stopping.

Mintex rear discs and pads - since I have heard good things about them. Also ordered some drilled and grooved front discs and Mintex pads to go with them.

Anyone got any thoughts on Mintex stuff. It's all arrived today so I must get on really, but am I bovvered?

I had Mintex pads on my old car good pads I fault lasted well and never squiked and no brake fade so all should be good

eekk.. . dont wanna be the one to say it but i had dramas with mintex on my scoob. they worked the first time you wanna stop quick, the 2nd and 3rd time was scary. (was on a duel carrage way with big round abouts on it) I found these to not be suited to the scooby anyways. sorry to be negative.

there fine for every day use and look nice under ya alloys but i would never buy them again. Ferodo FTW.

yup i hated the mintex on my A3, not what they used to be that brand....fell into the corporate hole of more profit, more sales lower costs

I use 'GSF specials' for the rear discs along with Pagid pads... about £16 for pads and about £18 each for the discs IIRC... work for me :)

Some of Bill's elliptical groove discs are good but front pads tbh I would not have anything other than DS2500's...

<tuffty/>

Brembo GT , you know you want them Welly! (lol bet they even bolt on, straight from the box)

Stop!! LALALALALALA I can't hear you.....

Oh well, I appreciate the opinions, albeit that they're not fantastic. I'll see how I get on with them, and if they're plop, I shall remove and hit with a very large hammer untill broken.

They simply cannot be worse than the ones I have!!

Watch this space, I shall let you know my thoughts....

granny shiffting not double clutching like you should TBH ;)

i had mintex on my old pug 306 they worked pretty well. that was 5 years ago mind!

Black diamond grooved disks and Ferodo DS2500's are the way to go on the front, nice improvement on standard, progressive powerfull and fade free. Not a inexpensive upgrade but well worth it.

When in Rome I say lol.

My brakes are droaning just now....really need to fit the brembos!

I fitted Mintex pads to my birds TT and they've been spot on to be honest so I wouldnt worry too much unless you're planning on doing track days etc.

i told you to buy my r32 brakes dude.......

seeing as its you il let you grovel and beg me to sell them to you once you hate your mintex enough :moa:

I've just replaced my discs & pads all round with EBC turbo discs & red stuff pads on the front and EBC standard discs & red stuff pads on the back. Really pleased with the result.

i m running mintex all round, less brake dust slightly better stopping power & decent enough price £130 discs & pads all round.

pushed hard, mintex will let you down... and your disks will be mullared once they have overheated

this is welly we're talking about here...

cracked one month old disks, and you choose drilled and grooved?? lol, soryr mate but you are just asking for more trouble and strife
crack tastic..

good luck mate

yeah my A3 had several aftermarkets before i ended up going back to OEM for which the discs lasted longer, braked better all with less fade.... Mintex were crap and that was 4-5 years back

I had mintex on my mondeo and they started of good then were crap. Next i had tarox monza discs which were drilled and grooved with mintex pads which were crap. Now ive got tarox g88's and ds2500's and my car stops wickedly!

how about Brembo discs? have anyone had any experience with it. a freind is using it on his TT and aparently he is getting good results with brembo discs and ferrodo pads
by the way is the same discs and pads on the TT that we use on the S3?

I've just put down a deposit on a set of porsche 996 rears for the front of my A3 with 325mm discs, that should stop it fairly well!

Hateful terrifying experiences with Mintex here for me too, not so much with quality pads like the 1144's, but the ebay 'brake box' kits seem to be terrible

So from this thread, standard rears (GSF or Mintex) and Black Diamond vs DS2500s on the front.

Good!

It certainly is looking that way! I'm still going to test out the Mintex pads on the front though, and report back accordingly....

Please do chap. Mine need changing and it will be start of next month (time and money dependant). Really surprised by the lack of braking from 70 the other day. Fully laiden with 3 lads and rugby gear, a little closer to the give way line than I wanted to be at a roundabout!

Im running mintex pads on the front and mintex pads and disc on the back. They are pretty good, better than standard and for the price they are ok.

Dont forget tyres play a massive role in braking and stop distances, if they are badly worn your stopping distance will be increased by quite some margin.

I have just fitted 323mm Discs and AP racing calipers, with crappy Mintex Pads (£20 ebay purchase). Breaks well but the squeek, very loudly!!,

I bedded the pads and discs in using Bill guide. So they shouldn't be glazed.

I will be replacing with DS2500

That's why I'm looking into the brakes lad, tyres are brand new Pirelli P6000 and it's been tracked recently.

Ye Im going to order some tyre in the week are mine are just legal.

Used to run P6000 before, how you find them
