Hi all, I am now 2 weeks overdue in ordering my S3 due to work commitments, however, a slight dilemma, and just wondered what others would do on here??

If I order now it will be approx. August when I get it, so do I wait another month and get a 61 plate??

Also, if I wait for a 61 plate, will that be a MY11??? Does anybody know, and will Audi tell me or not? or is it the luck of the draw what comes off the production line?

Open to debate?

Sorry for all the questions, but I’m Confused.com:jump:

I guess the question is does it really matter ?

I couldn't be bothered to wait an additional 6/7 weeks for my S3 so that it would be a Mar 2010 plate i just took it as soon as it arrived, the plate thing doesn't worry me too much these days, having said that I use a cherished plate when I get around to putting it on :)

Order it, get it, drive it, enjoy it - these are the priorities according to the law of Spin :)

Nah, i'd have to wait I think, its not long to wait. Unless its a company car then it doesn't matter and go order it now!

If you wait until September, surely it'll be a "60" plate? A "61" plate would be Sept 2011; or am I missing something.

My dealer found a new S3 in mid March. It was unregistered on the UK Audi Network and I waited 2 weeks so it would be a "10". And I'll tell you this, and I don't care what anyone says, even if the car had been registered on 31st March 2010 as 59 plate, it'll still be valued on a trade-in as a "Late 59 plate" as opposed to a "10" one day later!!!

Maestro, yes you are correct, I'm just been thick, it will be a '60' plate, not a '61' I'm a year ahead of myself!

Think I'll be waiting for the new plate, a coupel of months won't make much difference really, and it is a private purchase not a Company car.

Just wondering if the new changes will be on the car, or it will still be MY10, got caught out last time as well, bought a new 08 plate and 3 months later the new shape one came out, but luckily had to sell it within 2 months of owning it.

However, if they say its a 2 month delivery, I would probably sway the other way, tricky one really.

Being a private buy i'd wait! The resale value will be better being a MY11 and having the 60 plate thats for sure.

Also being a MY11 will mean it wont have the stupidly big Q7 spec wing mirrors the current cars have

Hi , does anyone know for sure when the cut off for my10 / my11 is ? I'm thinking of buying for a September / 60 reg , and would hate to think that i would just miss out on my11 , thanks .

Is there a thread somewhere that gives the details of what's in MY11? I've not read anything about the smaller mirrors that Lee_R mentions... and I thought that larger mirrors were due to some new regulation - Look at the mirrors on the latest gen Porsche 911.

Back on topic for L33TAY... depending on the spec that you're after, you might be able to get into a new car very quickly. You should speak to your dealer to enquire. I'm picking mine up on Saturday. It was a factory order that took just 8 weeks to turnaround and that's with a pretty high spec. The dealers often have cars available at even quicker turnaround that have been pre-ordered by the dealer or are customer cancellations - they might even have something that is close to the spec that you're after! So you could be getting into a brand new S3 as soon as mid May!! Go on... you know you want to!

Yeah, I'd like to know when the cut-off point is too, not sure Audi will let that slip though, otherwise people would wait and not order current MY10 model!

Lee_R, yes aggree, the Re-sale will be better too, and gives me more time to save up for a bigger deposit.

s3forthemrs, tried looking for the spec, there is nothing close to what I want about really, and keep checking back on the Audi website, so think that option is out, and with the discount I'm getting it probably isn't worth buying a nearly new one TBH

L33TAY, I was actually referring to brand new... dealers often have cancellations that have already gone to production. When I ordered mine back in Feb, the dealer had a Silver S3 SB fully loaded that had arrived but had not been prepped - if it was a manual, I'd have taken it! And they also had an Ibis that was arriving soon that was a customer cancellation. They were willing to give bigger discounts on both of these.

Are you getting a good price ?? i just configured a new S3 and it came out £1k more than 2 second hand ones at the same garage....

Paddy, yeah pretty good, about 12%, and the 2nd hand prices at the stealers are high at the moment, and to get the exact spec it worth paying slightly more to get the right car.

A stock or cancelled car will always be offered at a bigger discount, even more so if highly specced, I'd have to disagree with all of you in my own experirnce the plate doesnt matter, I took a stock Ibis white car, heavily discounted in Mar 09, ran it for 10 months, 10,500 miles and PX it for just £1,250 less than I paid, forget the plate and concentrate on purchase price, why wait ?

If on the other hand a new model is expected that you prefer this is an entirely different scenario so worth waiting, I actually prefer the pre-facelift S3, the only improvement I can think of on the Gen 2 is the white DIS and LED DRL but having said that I prefer the look of the original lights. You could wait for a new model forever, if you like it and the price is attractive (which at this time of the year it really should be) just buy it, mine was built in around 8 weeks too.

The changes are very subtle, not enough to make me delay my order though.

You could make it a condition of sale, the car has to be a MY11.

I would wait if I were you, I was in the same situation picked my car up 27th Jan on a 56 plate, if I had waited 4 weeks I could have had it on 07 plate.Car is currently worth about £700 less than an 07 plate.

I have now decided to wait, I will be ordering the car this week for a 1st September delivery

I assume any changes that are going to be done for the new MY11 will be on the car when it arrives??

Is it normal to order this early for a September delivery . I myself will be going for a September delivery and was wondering when is the latest it would be advisable to place the order !!! Cheers .

Can't remember where but I'm pretty sure I saw a week 22 starting build date for MY11, not sure where though

You can place the order any time, you will just be in the queue, and they will slot it in for the relevant date I assume? You are looking at a 4 month delivery at the moment (Give or take), so start of May really is sensible.

MMm, would be interesting to see that, so, how long from build date does it take to arrive in the dealers over here??
